Schools in Delhi soon to have air purifiers

Seeing the growing problem of air pollution in the national capital, AAP government has directed all schools to install air purifiers in the schools to ensure that students don’t have to face any health related problems due to air pollution.Director of education has also requested schools to make students aware of the hazardous effects of burning fire crackers.Here's what official notification said: "The ambient air quality of Delhi needs to be improved. In view of the gravity of harm to human health due to inferior ambient air quality, schools should take action to install air filters as per need."Notification has also requested schools to take proper steps and educate students on the need of improving the air quality. "The cooperation of the young generation should be encouraged through co-curricular activities," the notification adds. According to the recent reports last year Delhi government announced the three tier air treatment system which includes the following:According to the Greenpeace India report, 1.2 million deaths take place every year due to poor air quality. Greenpeace reports also declared Delhi as the most polluted city in comparison to the other states. IIT scientist are using Jamuns to create solar cells in India

IIT Roorkee scientists have found a way to create solar cells which are inexpensive and for creating these inexpensive and more efficient cells they are using a delectable and local Indian fruit known as 'Jamun'. According to the reports, the scientists for creating solar cells are using naturally occurring pigment which is found in Jamuns for creating Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSCs) or Gratzel cells. About Gratzel cells These cells have been named after their Swiss inventor, Michael Gratzel. Instead of using silicon these cells rely on titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is cheap and is available widley.From paints to coffee whiteners, this material is found in almost everything."These cells are thin film solar cells composed of a porous layer of TiO2 coated photoanode, a layer of dye molecules (that absorbs sunlight), an electrolyte for regenerating the dye, and a cathode".All this material is carefully assembled in a sandwich like structure in which dye molecule plays an important role because of its ability to absorb white light. Members of the research team and are very optimistic about this discovery and are hopeful that this could be utilized for mass production of solar cells in India. "The dark colour of jamun and abundance of jamun trees in IIT campus clicked the idea that it might be useful as a dye in the typical Dye Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSC)," lead researcher Soumitra Satapathi, assistant professor at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee in Uttarakhand.

Indian Army's Kashmir Super 40 helped 40 Kashmiris to crack JEE mains

Training program 'Kashmir Super 40' initiated by the Indian Army for providing coaching to the youth of J&K has finally yielded good results when 26 boys and 2 girls cleared the JEE mains 2017.These students have also performed excellently in other engineering exams of other colleges and hail from South Kashmir (9), North Kashmir (10), Kargil/Ladhak (7) and Jammu region (2). About the scheme The scheme is sponsored under CSR initiative.It is sponsored by Patronet LNGUnder this scheme, army select the students via entrance examAfter selection Army provide students with free coaching and lodging facilities. This year, a total of 11.8 lakh students appeared for the JEE mains exam out of which only 2.2 lakh were selected after the results were declared. These 2.2 lakh students have qualified for the second and final round of the JEE exam which is JEE Advanced.Also, from now, instead of providing coaching to 40 students army will provide coaching to 50 students out which 5 will be girls.

Turkey scholarships are popular among Indian Students

Scholarship program backed by the government for higher studies in Turkey is gaining popularity among the Indian students as Turkey continues to emerge as one of the popular destinations for studies. The "Turkiye Scholarships" program is specifically designed for the international students and is one of the most extensive scholarship programs out there. Alone in 2016, the Turkey received as many as 122,000 applications from international students from 175 countries, according to the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities, which is responsible for the Turkiye Scholarships.Over 100 Indian students have received this scholarship since 2012. "I belong to a farmer's family from south India. It was unthinkable for people like me to come here to Turkey and get a high-quality education. I applied to 'Turkeye scholarships' and I was accepted," said Mustafa Ujampaaly, a PhD student at Ankara University, in a statement. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said "We embrace students from all over the world coming to Turkey". He was recently in India."There is a misconception propagated by the media that being a Muslim country, Indian students of other religions may face difficulty many restrictions. But I am living here, it feels really awesome to be here nice place," said Kanika Walia who is pursuing PhD in communications from Gazi University.The scholarships are offered in various disciplines which include courses for undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. programs.Students who do not speak Turkish are given one year free training in Turkish language and after the successful completion of the course are allowed to pursue the course at the university they have registered with.This program also aims at enhancing the Turkey's relation with other countries in the field of higher education."It is a very good thing to be in Turkey. I had always dreamed of studying abroad and never dreamed that I could study in Turkey. I was accepted after I applied to the government-funded 'Turkiye Scholarships' of the Turkish Prime Ministry (YTB)," said Navaz Kuttakkaren, a BA student from Kerala at Ankara University.

SSC MTS 2017 paper leak

The SSC MTS exam 2016 paper-I (afternoon shift) has been cancelled by the SSC commission as the exam was found to be compromised.Official notification "The re-examination for only those candidates who appeared in this shift will be held in due course and they would be informed accordingly," it said. The exam was scheduled to be held at various test centers on April 30, May 14, May 28, June 4 and June 11.On April 30 the question paper along with the answer key was available on the social media. While reporting the event, the director of KD campus, uploaded the images of the question paper and in the same matter sought the assistance from PMO and SSC. When asked the students about the question paper they confirmed that both are the same. This was written exam and consisted of Paper 1 and Paper 2.Paper 1 (Objective) - Paper 1 was objective and based on general intelligence and reasoning, English aptitude and general awareness. The exam was held for total 150 marks for duration of two hours.Paper 2 (Descriptive) - In descriptive paper candidates had to write a short essay/letter in any of the language provided in the 8th schedule of the constitution. Only the candidates who clear the cut-off prescribed for paper 1 are allowed to sit in paper 2.The exam was conducted to fill 8300 posts.Selection process:Candidates who will clear the written exam will be called for interview for the final selection.Pay scale:The selected candidates will be appointed on the grade pay of Rs 1800.

Leftist students condemned by teachers at JNU

A group of teachers stood in support of one their peers whose car windshield was broken after had addressed a meeting, which was organized for the 25 CRPF soldiers who were killed in maoist attack in Sukma in Chhattisgarh.The vandalism was condemned by the teachers and they also condemned the JNU University for not coming forward and saying anything about the act."We are not taking any names as to who did it. But it was certainly members of the Left parties who had opposed the meet and then raised the issue of our approaching police. They are giving themselves away," said Assistant Professor Buddha Singh whose car's windshield was broken.Atul Johari another teacher said that they are not sure who did this but the investigation is going on."We will also demand CCTV cameras on the campus -- a process which was stalled so that such acts do not get captured," Johari, a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences, said.The teachers also targeted JNUTA for maintaining the silence on the issue.Professor and Chairman of the Centre for West Asian Studies, told IANS. "The JNUTA is full of anarchists. They lose no time in issuing a denunciation when certain acts or people are involved... I have been part of JNU for 25 years. I have lived in fear... and even now, when (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi is in power. Imagine what will happen when he's gone," Ashwini K Mohapatra, a Professor and Chairman of the Centre for West Asian Studies, told IANS.However, the entire incident was rubbished by Mohit Pandey, President of JNU Students Union and said that the entire news is fake and is designed to take the heat off of the government about the killing of the Indian soldiers."This is a fake attempt again to malign JNU... whatever wrong is there must be brought forth. But we will not allow RSS machinery to malign the name of JNU," Pandey had said.

50 winners in JEE Mains from poor weavers' colony

No sooner than CBSE declared the results of JEE mains, a poor locality located on the fringes of the southern Bihar district went into celebration mode. The reason for their celebration were those 50 candidates who had qualified the JEE Mains entrance exam. This locality is mainly inhabited by the weavers whose business' now is unable to earn a decent livelihood. “We may have scored a half century this year but that is still not good enough. Next time, we will certainly hit a century”, gushed the successful JEE main examinees of Patwatoli, including Raushan Kumar, Vinit, Ankit and Naresh. The area was well known for manufacturing high quality cotton garments with power looms and was famously known as 'Manchester of Bihar'. But, good times come to an end when the rising costs and growing competition made it difficult to produce the garments.The area is known as 'Patwaloti' and known for sending many of its kids to IITs despite all the odds stacking against it. Over the past two decades each household from the area has given this nation an engineer.Last year 40 students from this area made it to IIT and this year 50 students cleared the exam.Many of those from Patwatoli who went on to become successful engineers have been inspiring and guiding successor generation of JEE aspirants, free of cost, to replicate their success. So, the Patwatoli saga goes on and on”, explains social activist Gopal Patwa, who helps organize community studies in the colony.
