VCs can carry out works up to 1 crore: Manish Sisodia

Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the VCs of the Delhi government funded universities will be able to carry the work worth INR 5 crores. He further said that this is an important move in ensuring the autonomy of the institutions.An official said that Sisodia has written to the department about the same and has asked to delegate the powers to VCs with immediate effect.The official further said ' VCs of these universities earlier did not have such financial powers and they were dependent on the government for sanction of works that they might need to undertake on an urgent basis.'Among universities Delhi Technological University and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University are two of the universities among other which are fully funded by the government. “This is a major reform for ensuring the autonomy of universities funded by the Government of NCR of Delhi. The vice-chancellors of the universities can now take up new works up to Rs five crore. Further, for repair and maintenance, they will have full financial powers, if it is carried out through PWD,” Sisodia said in a written communication to the finance department. He also stated clearly that if the work is undertaken by some other company other than PWD then the allowed limit will be up to 1 crore per annum.“The department should ensure immediate implementation of this delegation of financial powers,” the deputy chief minister also said.

On UGC directive, Universities to promote Armed Forces Flag Day among the students

Armed Forces Flag Day is just around the corner and UGC has directed all the universities to create awareness among the students regarding the sacrifices made by the armed forces.Universities have also been directed to engage the youth in various programs for the same purpose.The Armed Force Flag Day is on December 7 and UGC asked the universities to promote the event after defense ministry communicated to UGC about the need of events like this. “Armed Forces Flag Day is observed every year on December 7 to commemorate the supreme sacrifices made by our valiant Armed Forces personnel for protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country,” the UGC said in a letter to universities. UGC has requested the universities to organize programs and talks in order to make students more aware about the importance of the Armed forces and their significance in the every-day lives of all

IIT-B ranks 9 among BRICS Universities in QS raking 2018

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its rankings for the best universities among the BRICS nations and IIT-B secured its position in top 10 universities with rank 9.QS observed more than 300 universities from India, China, Russia, South Africa and Brazil and ranked them. This year IIT-Roorkee has been ranked at rank 51 among the top universities of the BRICS nation.Some other universities from India which got featured in the list are Indian Institute of Science (IISc), IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Guwahati. Among the private universities, BITS Pilani, Thapar University and Symbiosis International University made their mark on the list. “The biggest gain from ranking is to be able to look at ourselves. Our universities are producing quality work,” said UGC chairman Ved Singh Chauhan.Last year, IISc was ranked at 6th position among the best universities of the BRICS nation and was closely followed by the IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras and IIT Kanpur at ranks 13, 15, 19 and 22 respectively.“With 300 universities being ranked this year, there's also the opportunity for new institutions to break into the rankings,” QS top universities said.

Information bulletin for JEE Main 2018 released

Information bulletin for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) mains 2018 has been released by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Candidates who wish to appear for the exam can download the bulleting from the official website-- jeemain.nic.in.The exam is scheduled for April 8, 2018 and will be conducted by the CBSE in pen paper mode.The application process of filling the forms will be online and candidates are required to upload their Aadhaar numbers in order to authenticate their identities.Exam feeThe exam fee ranges from Rs 1,000 for general category boys to 250 for the reserved category. Check your eligibility for the COMEDK UGET 2018 scheduled for May 13

The notification regarding the Under Graduate Entrance Test (UGET) 2018 has been released by Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). The exam is scheduled in next year on May 13.The exam will be held to determine the competence of the interested candidates based on which they will be selected for admission into various engineering courses at various COMEDK-member institutions.The exam will be conducted in online mode and consortium noted that “the information brochure in this behalf would be hosted on the website (comedk.org) in due course”.Eligibility for Engineering Interested candidates are required to have cleared II PUS and their 10+2 exams from the recognized boardCandidates should have at least scored 45 percent (40 percent in the reserved category) in their plus two exams with physics and math as compulsory subjects. Decision to advance the exams of class 10 and 12 to Feb is still farfetched

Contrary to the rumors spread earlier, CBSE is planning to conduct the board examinations of class 10 and 12 in the month of March. Earlier, it was reported that CBSE is mulling over the possibility of advancing the exams of class 10 and 13 to the month of February so that teachers can have more time for evaluation and evaluation can be error free. With the exams commencing in the usual month of March, CBSE is however, planning to wind up the exams within a month to provide more window to the teachers for carrying out error-free evaluation. According to a report of HT 'The board’s plan to advance the examinations is a part of the reforms in the evaluation process, which has come under the scanner due to glaring errors in the practice'.In June, board made it clear that no such decision will be taken by the board without consulting the stakeholders and schools.Earlier, many schools also raised their concerns over the fact that CBSE might advance the exams of the class 10 and 12 by a month.The date sheet for exams is released by the CBSE in month of January for both the classes together.
