Kannada Language Compulsory in schools in Karnataka from 2018-19

From the academic session 2018-19, Karnataka government has made the Kannada language compulsory in schools from class 1. The news was confirmed by the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait.The language learning will be compulsory in all the schools including the CBSE, CISCE and private ones.The learning is compulsory but there will be no Kannada language examination in the first three years. Exams for the language will conducted from class 4. If any student from outside the state joins class 4, then he/she will not have to write the exams for three years. In July 2017, the state government decided that the state anthem 'Nada Geethe' will also be made compulsory in schools nationwide. In a series of tweetsKarnataka Education Minister Tanveer Sait said " it has been stated that schools which fail to implement teaching Kannada as a subject will face disaffiliation."In response to this, the government said "it is yet to finalize on the pattern for the State anthem; there are five patterns and Department of Kannada and Culture, Karnataka State Government is yet to decide on the best one to ensure that the anthem is sung without mistakes and none is repeated."

Bridge course for Ayurveda, Homeopathy Doctors to practice Allopathy

A new bill introduced in Lok Sabha suggests that doctors, who are pursuing studies in Indian systems of medicine, including ayurveda, and homeopathy may be allowed to practice allopathy only after they have cleared a bridge course.The National Medical Commission Bill, 2017 seeks to replace the current medical regulator, Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body, was moved by the government in the house yesterday.Clause 49 of the bill calls for the joint sitting of the National Medical Commission, the Central Council of Homoeopathy and the Central Council of Indian Medicine at least once a year as this will enhance the interface between homeopathy, Indian Systems of Medicine and modern systems of medicine. "The joint sitting, may, by an affirmative vote of all members present and voting, decide on approving specific bridge course that may be introduced for the practitioners of Homeopathy and of Indian Systems of Medicine to enable them to prescribe such modern medicine at such level as may be prescribed," according to the Bill. The proposed bill is strongly opposed by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). According to the IMA the new bill "will "cripple" the functioning of medical profession by making it completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators.""Regulators need to have an autonomy and be independent of the administrators. The National Medical Commission will be a regulator appointed by the administrators under their direct control," IMA's president K K Aggarwal said.

The Director General School Education (DGSE) has made it crystal clear that the staff, teaching or non-teaching, employed under the Adarsh schools cannot be treated as the employees of either Punjab Education Development Board (PEDB) or the state education department.26 Adarsh schools in Punjab are established under the PPP model.The staff however, argued that when the stake of the government in the partnership is 70 percent then how the staff employed in these schools cannot be considered under the education department.Adarsh schools were opened for the benefits of students from the poor and rural areas, to provide them with the quality and free education. The monthly operational cost is divided between the government and private players in the ration 70:30. The staff in these schools was appointed by the private sector and there are currently 3000 people employed in these schools. In a communication on December 28 to the private partners, Prashant Goyal said "the PEDB has been running as many as 26 Adarsh Schools under PPP model in the state. There was no contract between the employees of these schools and PEDB directly or indirectly. Hence, the staff of these schools cannot be treated as employees of PEDB or government of Punjab.” Shamsher Singh, a teacher and the leader of the Adarsh School Teachers’ Union Punjab said "by issuing such statements government was ditching them by making different rules for them every now and then. When we got the appointment letters years back and we were given the letters as the employees of government Adarsh schools, but now, the education department does not treat us as education department employees".“There are nearly 3000 staff in these school, but our teachers are not having even Rs 10,000 average salary and that too is pending since April 2017,” said a teacher of Nawangram Adarsh School in Nawanshahr district.“When government is sharing the 70 per cent expenditure liabilities of these schools then why is it not keeping the tab on the total funds released and the expenditure done by schools,” said another teacher.

Revised answer keys of Bihar BTET 2017 is now available

The revised and corrected answer keys for the state Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2017 has been released by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) at bsebonline.net and biharboard.ac.in.The results of the exam were declared in September, however, objections were raised by the students in both paper 1 and paper 2. According to the reports, after scrutiny, BSEB agreed that 9 questions were not printed properly and answer to two questions were unclear. The board charged INR 70 from the students who raised the objections and now after correction, the board will refund the fees taken from the students for objections.A total of 2.43 lakh aspirants appeared for Bihar TET. The Bihar Board had conducted the online exam on Sunday, July 23.

Delhi government to set up school of excellence

Manish Sisoida, Deputy Chief Minister, announced the decision of the Delhi government to introduce new type of school 'School of Excellence'. The main aim of these schools will be to provide the quality education.The new buildings of the schools in Rohini, Khichdipur, Kalkaji, Madanpur Khadar and Dwarka are ready.Sisodia said "these schools would impart education through English language and the admission process for nursery to class five and class nine and 11 would start from next year."The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. At present, there are three categories of government-run schools in the national capital – Rajkiya Vidalaya, Pratibha Vikas Vidalya and Sarvodaya Vidalya. Briefing the media persons about the Cabinet decisions, Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, said "the government would set up a model of good education by opening the ‘Schools of Excellenceʼ. In Pratibha Vidalaya, students are admitted after entrance tests while in Sarvodaya and Rajkiya Vidalaya, there is no such condition." “For admission to Schools of Excellence… neighbourhood criteria will be followed. The number of seats in these schools would be limited. Twenty-five students in each section of nursery to class five. However, there will be written tests for admission in class nine and class 11,” he said.“The Cabinet has approved Rs 254 crore for setting up the world-class skill centre. Construction of the skill centre will be completed in the next two years,” Sisodia said.

People's collective, Madarsa Welfare Society (MWS), group working towards the welfare of the Madrassas, has written to the Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat and asked him to facilitate the Sanskrit education in the Madrassas.But, according to the officials Uttarakhand Madarsa Education Board, on Friday, rejected the idea calling it “unfeasible”.On December 8 the Gadarpur-based MWS, which has representatives in 207 madrassas across the state, wrote to Rawat asking him to “appoint Sanskrit teachers in the madrasas that were ready to include Sanskrit in the curriculum”. Sibte Nabi, chairperson, MWS, said to The Indian Express, “All 207 madrasas that we are connected with, are welcoming of the idea of including Sanskrit in their curriculum. We want the madrasa educated students to be able to pursue courses in Ayurveda studies, which is currently impossible since our students donʼt have any understanding of the language integral to Ayurveda studies (Sanskrit).” Nabi said "funds under the centreʼs Scheme to Provide Quality Education in Madrasas (SPQEM) must be utilised towards providing Sanskrit education to the 25,000-odd students in the state who were currently receiving education in madrassas."There are 297 Madrassas in the state which are affiliated to the Uttarakhand Madarsa Education Board. The deputy registrar of the board said "We have not yet received any letter from any madarsa asking us to include Sanskrit in the curriculum for madarsas."

Telangana to conduct EAMCET 2018 exams from May 2 to 5

Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) has released the exam dates for the Telangana EAMCET (engineering, agriculture, medical common entrance test) according to which the exams will be conducted from May 2 to 5, 2018. Candidates who will clear the exam will be eligible for the admissions into BE, BTech, BSc courses in Agriculture and Technology at various recognised institutions in the state.Last year, the exam was leaked twice due to which authorities held the exam thrice. The exam dates for other entrance exams have also been released by the TSCHE.Other important exams which will be conducted are:TS PECET (Physical Education Common Entrance Test): May 20TS LAWCET (Law Common Entrance Test): May 25TS PGLCET (Post-graduate law common entrance test): May 26TS PGECET (Postgraduate engineering common entrance test): May 27TS EdCET (Education Common Entrance Test): May 31All CETs, except TS-PECET will be conducted online
