Investment in education and R&D must be government’s top priority: Pranab Mukherjee

On Monday, Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee urged the government to invest more in the sectors related to education and research and development. "Today, not as a former President but as a citizen of India, I want greater investment in education and research and the country will benefit from this," Mukherjee said while delivering endowment lecture at the Ramkrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Golpark. As he urged the government he was also regretful of the fact that budget allocation for the education and R&D sectors are not up to the mark and government needs to be more serious about them. He cited an example of Germany, who stood strong during the Eurozone crisis. For Germany, it was possible because of their greater focus on R&D area. "In 1991, the budget on education was six percent of the GDP but in 2018-19 Union budget allocation is just 3.6 percent of the national GDP, though the allocation of Rs 80,500 crore may seem to be a huge sum." Mukherjee also reminded the government that by 2025 India will have the largest young population with the biggest workforce in the world and it is primary to turn this population into a suitable workforce or there will be a disaster. "If we are unable to convert this population into a suitable workforce and not able to create jobs by adopting new technologies, then instead of 'demographic dividend' it will be a 'demographic disaster'," Mukherjee said.

Non-English Schools in Maharashtra to have an international collegium

Education Minister, Vinod Tawde, Maharashtra told media that Maharashtra government is in the process of setting education board for all the non-English schools in the state. "The government has decided to form theMaharashtra International Education Board (MIEB) to prepare thesyllabus for the non-English medium schools. It will compete with theexisting boards such as CBSE and ICSE," Vinod Tawde told reporters. The scheme will be implemented in phases and in the first phase, 13 selected marathi schools will have their syllabus based on the new curriculum of international standard. He further said that each district would have at least one school affiliated to the international board. MIEB will function as an autonomous body and will set up a curriculum for the affiliated schools as well as conduct the exams in the schools.

JEE Mains 2018 results declared| Check on the official website

On Monday, CBSE declared the results of the JEE Mains 2018 exam. All the candidates who had appeared for the exam can now visit the official website-- jeemain.nic.in to check their respective results. Apart from the official website, students can also visit the sites-- cbse.results.nic.in, results.nic.in-- and check their results. This year, more than 10 lakh students appeared for the JEE exam in offline mode. The offline exam was conducted on April 8, 2018. The online counterpart of the exam was conducted on April 15, 16. Online exam witnessed more popularity among the students this year. Last year, 1.65 lakh candidates had appeared for the online exam but this year more than 2.5 lakh students registered for the exam. Google and CBSE joined hand to help students in information search

With the aim of helping the students, the tech giant, Google collaborated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to provide students with seamless access to the information related to the exams on the search engine. The first step of the collaboration begins with the JEE Mains results, which students can access from the Google search quickly and securely either from their smart-phones or desktops. “We are collaborating with Google for the smooth dissemination of results through an easy and secure platform,” Rama Sharma, Senior Public Relations Officer, CBSE, said in a statement. Google has also ensured the CBSE that all the data will be handled securely and only for the purpose of showing the results on the search page. Useful to the students, the feature will remain live only for short duration after the declaration of the results. “With over 260 million students enrolled in more than 1.5 million schools across India, we believe having reliable, seamless, and safe access to education-related information is crucial,” said Shilpa Agrawal, Product Manager, Google Search. “That’s why today’s updates are just the first step of many to improve access to information about important exams and other exam-related content in Google Search in India,” she added. It is said that the tech giant has also added additional support for other popular exams such as SSC, GATE, and CAT.
