As mercury shoots up, schools to close by 1 pm

As mercury continues to shoot up, the school education department has asked the Bhopal collector to direct all schools (CBSE, private and government-run schools) to wrap up their activities by 1 pm.The department asked the collector to issue a letter in this effect and make sure that the orders are followed in letter and spirit.“In view of soaring mercury, it has been decided CBSE and MP board- affiliated private and government-run schools will necessarily have to close by 1 pm, the order for which should be issued by district collector,” reads a notification from the school education department.The notification said that schools can take a day to make the necessary arrangements to introduce the changes but the orders must be followed and failure will invite strict action against the schools.“The temperature can touch 45 degrees Celsius in days to come, which is not good for children's health. Due to excessive heat, students should not suffer in schools. Therefore, the decision has been taken to reduce school timings,” it stated.The temperature in Bhopal has crossed the scale of 39 degrees and is expected to rise further in the days to come.
