Police arrested three in CBSE paper leak row
In a statement, Delhi police said that Class 12 Economics question paper of CBSE board was leaked three days before the exam in the Himachal Pradesh's Una town and was shared on at least 40 WhatsApp groups after the leak.In connection to the leak, the police has arrested three culprits namely-- Rakesh Kumar, Amit Sharma and Ashok Kumar. All the culprits are from the DAV Centenary Public School in Una, said R P Upadhayay, special commissioner (crime) of police.Rakesh Kumar is a teacher of Economics at the DAV school and has been teaching the subject for eight years. He was also the centre superintendent of Jawahar Navodaya Public School in Una.Amit Sharma and Ashok Kumar worked as a clerk and peon respectively in the school.On March 23 when Rakesh Kumar went to the Union Bank to collect the Computer Science paper he leveraged the opportunity and picked a bundle of Economics paper. This is how the paper got leaked on various WhatsApp group. A relative of Rakesh Kumar in Chandigarh was to appear for the Economics exams."The hand-written copy was sent by Rakesh to his relative in Chandigarh, whose son was appearing for Class 12 exam. That way, the hand-written copy got leaked on WhatsApp groups," he said."Investigation so far has revealed that the hand-written copy was available on 40 WhatsApp groups. At least 30-40 students got it but a lot of trail is yet to be covered," said Upadhayay."The motive for paper leakage so far has emerged that Rakesh wanted to help his student who was weak in economics. He also helped his relative. No money angle has come up so far, but investigation is on to determine if the accused leaked any other papers," the officer added.On March 30, CBSE announced to conduct the Economics exam on April 25 throughout the nation.
