Upper age limit for the NEET exam to remain the same

Upper age limit for the NEET exam to remain the same

On Friday, the Delhi HC dismissed the plea that challenged the upper age limits for the general and reserved category candidates to apply for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET)- UG. The court also allowed the students of open schools and private students as eligible to appear for the exam. On January 22, CBSE released a notification which said students of open schools who has biology or biotechnology as additional subjects, have taken more than two years to complete class XI and XII, and studied privately are eligible to apply for the medical entrance test. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Chander Shekhar said that the upper age limit for the candidates as prescribed by the CBSE is legal and valid. The bench also said “the proviso to a clause of the regulations disqualifying recognized open school board candidates is struck down and declared unconstitutional”. “Students/candidates, who have done class XII from National Institute of Open Schooling or recognized open school state boards, would not betreated as per se disqualified for selection and appearance in NEET examination,” the bench said.
