Admit cards of the eligible students cannot be withheld by the respective schools: CBSE

Admit cards of the eligible students cannot be withheld by the respective schools: CBSE

For the upcoming exams of class X and XII, the CBS board has issued clear instructions to the schools in which it said that respective schools have no right to withhold the admit cards of the eligible students. The Board also said that some schools are even charging fees from the children for releasing their admit cards which is the violation of the Examination Bye-laws.The letter issued by KK Choudhury, controller of examinations, CBSE says, ‘Several instances of not issuing admit cards by various CBSE affiliated schools on the ground of performance of students in pre-board tests (conducted by schools internally) have come to the notice of the CBSE. It is further noted that some schools are charging fee for release of admit card.’The letter further quotes the Rule 15 of the laws which reads 'in no case, the heads of affiliated schools shall detain eligible candidates from appearing at the examination.’The board clarified that the admit cards of the students were made available on the basis of the lists finalized by the schools so at the later stage schools cannot withhold the admit cards of the eligible candidates.‘Board issues admit cards only to those candidates which have been sponsored by schools in their finalized list of candidates. Therefore school has already confirmed eligibility of such candidates for appearing in board examinations. Thus holding of admit cards or not allowing eligible candidates to appear in practical/theory examinations in class X/XII is in violation of CBSE examination bye-laws. School will also not charge any fee for issuing admit cards to the eligible candidate,’ the letter reads further.

Role of IT Industry in Green Computing movement

Role of IT Industry in Green Computing movement

The pace with which ICT (Information and Communication Technology) is taking over across the world, it is also raising red flags for the environment at that same pace. The process of manufacturing a computer and even its smallest elements takes up a large number of raw materials, electricity, chemical, water and procreating nothing but hazardous waste. Moreover, if we consider the fact that a single PC (Personal Computer) in use creates about a ton of Carbon Dioxide every year, the threat these small wonder bones passes to Earth’s natural Carbon Cycle increases. It castrates the natural cycle...

From 2019 NCERT to reduce its syllabus by half: Prakash Javadakar

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that from the academic session 2019, NCERT will reduce its syllabus by half which will provide relief to the school going students. He said that school syllabus is more than the syllabus of the BA and B Com courses so that students can get the time for other activities which will help in their overall development. The minister also talked about the reforms in school education which are under consideration and said that the examinations and detentions will be introduced.“At the stage of development of cognitive skills, students need to be given full freedom. I have asked NCERT to reduce the syllabus by half and it will be effective from the 2019 academic session,” he told Rajya Sabha TV in an interview.“Without examination, there is no competition and no target. There must be an element of competition for better outcomes,” he said.If a student fails the exam in March, he will get another chance in May and if fails both the marks then he will be detained in the same class. He also said that the poor quality of the teachers is also a major concern as it directly affects the outcome of the learning among the children. “The basic task of teachers is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of students and mentor them accordingly,” he added.

NEET: Foreign course rule is not valid for the current students

A statement issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said that the students who have already taken the admissions under the current regulations in order to pursue the primary medical course from foreign institutes are exempted from qualifying the NEET exam.Recently, National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) was made compulsory even for the students who wish to pursue their MBBS from the foreign university. NEET is a common national level entrance exam conducted for admission to medical courses. The proposal to clear the NEET in order to get the admission into foreign universities was approved by the MCI.After the decision was made public, the health ministry received many grievances of the students which requested to exempt them from the NEET exam as they have already gone abroad."In this context," the statement from the ministry said, "it is informed that the regulations prescribe that the Indian Citizens / Overseas Citizen of India intending to obtain primary medical qualification from any medical institution outside India, on or after May 2018, shall have to mandatorily qualify the NEET for admission to MBBS course abroad"."The decision will be implemented prospectively i.e. from May-2018. Thus, students who have already taken admission under current regulations to pursue a primary medical course by taking Eligibility Certificate from MCI are exempted from qualifying NEET," it said.

HETE 2017 results delayed; will be released soon

HETE 2017 results delayed; will be released soon

Candidates of the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Examination (HTET) will further have to wait for the results of the exam as the BSEH has decided to complete the Aadhaar- based biometric attendance of all the test takers. The HETE 2017 exam was conducted in the month of December but due to some technical glitches, the biometric attendance of some students cannot be completed on the exam day. The non-Aadhaar card registered candidates will first have to complete their identification process and it will commence on February 23. BSEHʼs President, Dr Jagbir Singh said "candidates from other states can complete this process by going to the districts of Haryana. Under special circumstances, the test takers can complete the Aadhaar-based biometric identification by visiting any center established in 22 districts."The list of the centers is available on the official website of the BSEH-- bseh.org. Candidates who are unable to visit the center on February 23 will have to visit the Teachers Building at the Board Headquarters on February 24 and on February 25.

Bihar Board exams security check: Students with only flip-flops are allowed

To ensure cheating free board exams, Bihar Board has banned the shoes and socks in the examination center as a result students are appearing for their board exams wearing flip flops. The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) in a notification has made it clear that the students wearing shoes and socks will not be allowed to sit for the exams.BSEB chairman Anand Kishor said, “Students cannot wear shoes and socks to examination centers. Such practice has already been in place in some competitive examinations. Students can wear slippers. All district education officers and examination center superintendents have been instructed to follow the boardʼs order,” Patna district has a maximum of 74 examination centers, where 82,500 students will write their papers.According to the reports, more than 1000 students were penalized for cheating during the class 12 board exams, which concluded on February 17.A BSEB official said, “Though all examination centers have CCTVs installed since last yearʼs examination, the state board did not want to take any chance. We know this move would receive criticism from several quarters. We do not find anything objectionable with the step given the (large) scale of the examination.”

Odisha board exams are boycott by the teachers and employees

Odisha board exams are boycott by the teachers and employees

This year, the government of Orissa may find it difficult to conduct the annual board exams smoothly as 40,000 teachers and employees of unaided schools and colleges are on a strike. The cause of tension between the teachers and government is a controversial affidavit, which teachers are demanding the government to withdraw. However, no final decision has been made on the issue and the situation has become a headache for the students and parents. The state government however, assured parents and students that it is ready to conduct the exams smoothly despite teachers on being strike. "Due to the code of conduct government is not unable to take several important decisions. Government is all prepared for smooth conduct of board exams. Whether the teachers will join or nor exams will be held on time without any problem," said higher education minister Anant Das. "If required we can engage teachers from degree colleges and teacher education institutes, and teachers and employees of primary schools for smooth conduct of the examinations. Both class X and plus two examinations will be held as per the schedule," said school and mass education secretary Pradipta Mohapatra."We don't trust the government. Instead of issuing a press release from the chief minister's office we demand a gazetted notification. Earlier also we have received several such assurances but later the government did not abide by it," said convenor of the All Odisha School, College, Teachers' and Employees' Forum, Prakash Chandra Mohanty.

SSC and HSC papers assessment to be boycotted by the unaided schools

The SSC and HSC exams in the state of Maharashtra are starting February 21 and March 4, respectively but the Maharashtra State (permanently) Unaided Schools Action Committee has decided to boycott the assessment of the answer sheets of the SSC and HSC exams. In a statement to the media, vice-president of the action committee Khanderao Jagdale said that they are left with no other choice but to boycott as the state government failed to take concrete steps to meet their pending demands.“We met with the Kolhapur divisional board officials on Wednesday and have intimated them about the boycott of paper assessment in coming days. We have been consistently mocked by the state government over our demands. Despite approving the 20% grant step-by-step to the eligible schools, we have been paid nothing,” he said.He said that more than 40,000 teachers are associated with the committee and the decision to boycott was unanimous.“We are not holding anyone to ransom. This is our right and we stand by it. The education minister, when we met last week, said that the state government has no money and the issue will to be looked into after the next monsoon session. This is not acceptable,” Jagdale said.According to him, the government even told them that their non-cooperation will not have any effect.“We would like to let them see how it unfolds. Without proper reinforcement it is not easy to assess the answer sheets. The government will see this in coming days,” Jagdale said.

When he and his friends objected, one of the accused took an ice pick and hit my son. Now Rhymes will teach the students about 'Good Touch and Bad Touch'

A book of poems has been published by a child rights body of the West Bengal government with the aim to spread awareness among the children about the 'good touch' and 'bad touch'.The book is titled as "Chenchiye Para Maat Karo" (Shout at the top of your voice) and is distributed free of cost among the children of both the genders who visited the West Bengal State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBSCPCR) stall at the International Kolkata Book Fair. "We thought such poems can be used as tools in houses and schools to alert children about sexual misconduct," WBSCPCR Chairperson Ananya Chatterjee Chakraborti said. One of the poems, when loosely translated, reads: "If someone touches you improperly/ Cuddles you unfairly/Never keep that a secret as these are wrong acts/ Share everything with your parents, your elder sister."There have been reports of child abuse is some schools of the state since December. The book was launched on Thursday at the Book Fair and now the WBSCPCR is planning to distribute the book among all the schools of the state."We will chalk out a detailed program and modalities in this regard," Chatterjee Chakraborti said.

NEET is now compulsory to study MBBS abroad

NEET is now compulsory to study MBBS abroad

If you are thinking that NEET is not for you as you have plans to pursue the MBBS from a foreign university then get your facts correct as the government is mulling over the plans to make NEET compulsory for the students who wish to pursue medical education from the foreign universities.Currently, any candidate who wishes to pursue the medical education in government/private institute of the nation has to clear the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET). The exam came into existence in 2016.According to a senior health ministry official, the proposal is at an advanced stage. The official said "A mere 12 to 15 percent of the graduates, who come back after studying abroad, manage to clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE). If they don't clear the FMGE, they don't get registered to practice in India. In such cases, they start quackery or practice illegally which can be dangerous. So the move is aimed at ensuring only competent students get to study medicine in foreign universities." Every year more than 7000 students go outside India to study the medicine.“As per the data, the percentage of graduates who have studied abroad and have cleared the FMGE has ranged between 13 and 26.9 percent in the last five years. This is really a matter of concern as they go out, spend a lot of money of their parents and are not able to contribute to the healthcare in India once they come back,” the official explained.Once the new proposal is approved, those aspiring to study medicine outside India will be given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) only if they clear NEET, the official added.

More than 1 lakh candidates skip the UP Board exam on the first day

More than 1 lakh candidates skip the UP Board exam on the first day

On the very first day of the UP Board exams, more than 1 lakh candidates skipped writing the exam. The main reason for such a large number of absentees is being attributed to the strict measures taken by the UP government to ensure cheating free exams in the state. The government has taken many steps such as appointing STF and installing the CCTV cameras to make the exams cheating free. The exams for class 10 and 12 begin yesterday and will continue till March 12. Vikas Srivastava, the Deputy Director Education told PTI, "On the first day of examinations yesterday, over 1,80,826 students did not appear. It included over 53,100 high schools and over 1.27 lakh, intermediate students." Another Education Department official said "the huge number of absentee students was because of the extra measures government has introduced this year to prohibit malpractices during the board exams. The state government has installed cameras in exam halls, and is using the services of STF and local intelligence to check activities of education mafia."This year more than 66 lakh students registered for the board exams in the UP.Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said "the objective behind deploying STF and local intelligence agencies this year was to conduct copy free exam and to prevent the education mafia from causing mischief"."We have studied all the possible ways and means of unfair means during the examinations. Those appearing in an exam impersonating someone else or involved in changing answer sheets before they reach evaluation centers will not be able to do so. Effective measures have been taken," Sharma told PTI.

'Happiness curriculum' for the students to be introduced by the Delhi government

Students studying in the government schools of Delhi will now get the lessons on how to be happy as AAP government is planning to introduce happiness curriculum for the students of the class nursery to class 8. The curriculum will be introduced from the next academic session.Addressing a gathering at the Excellence in Education awards at Thyagraj Stadium, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today said, "The Delhi government has commissioned a team of experts, including school teachers, which is preparing a framework for the happiness curriculum." "The entire curriculum will be purely activity-based and no formal examinations will be conducted on it. However, a periodic assessment of children's progress will be made using a happiness index," he said. Mr. Sisodia said India's neighboring country Bhutan is also formulating the policies to ensure that its citizens have high happiness index. In a similar fashion introduction of the happiness curriculum in the schools will help the children enhance their personality and will highly influence the society and the nation."Education has to serve a larger moral and societal purpose and cannot be looked at in isolation from the needs of society. Even as we aim for economic equality, we must strive for 'happiness equality' as well," he said.He also requested teachers and students of the government schools in the capital to help the government in developing the curriculum.
