From 2019 NCERT to reduce its syllabus by half: Prakash Javadakar

HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said that from the academic session 2019, NCERT will reduce its syllabus by half which will provide relief to the school going students. He said that school syllabus is more than the syllabus of the BA and B Com courses so that students can get the time for other activities which will help in their overall development. The minister also talked about the reforms in school education which are under consideration and said that the examinations and detentions will be introduced.“At the stage of development of cognitive skills, students need to be given full freedom. I have asked NCERT to reduce the syllabus by half and it will be effective from the 2019 academic session,” he told Rajya Sabha TV in an interview.“Without examination, there is no competition and no target. There must be an element of competition for better outcomes,” he said.If a student fails the exam in March, he will get another chance in May and if fails both the marks then he will be detained in the same class. He also said that the poor quality of the teachers is also a major concern as it directly affects the outcome of the learning among the children. “The basic task of teachers is to assess the strengths and weaknesses of students and mentor them accordingly,” he added.
