India witnessed a rise in the Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education



On Friday, Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar launched the latest edition of All India Higher Education Survey (AIHES) according to which there is a rise in the Country's Gross Enrolment Ratio. Gross Enrolment Ratio of the nation has risen from 24.5% in 2015-16 to 25.2% in 2016-17.GER is a statistical measure which determines the number of students enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate and research level studies within the country and expressed the number as the percentage of the population. The aim of India is to attain the GER of 30% by 2020, it's still lagging behind considerably from the nation such as China. The current GER of China is 43.39%. USA's GER is 85.8% and Pakistan's GER is 9.93%. According to the AIHES of 2016-17, Tamil Nadu has the GER of 46.9%, which is higher than the national average. Bihar has the least GER of 14.9%.As India is competing to get a rank among the international institutes of the world, there has not been much improvement in the internationalization of the India education. The improvement in the number of international students has only been marginal from 45,424 in 2015-16 to 47,575 in 2016-17. Of the total international students, 31,779 are men and 15,796 are women.
