TN government gave INR 7 lakh to the NEET victim's family
A financial assistance on INR 7 lakh was given by TN government to family of Dalit girl who allegedly committed suicide over not getting a seat in medical college because TN was not granted exemption from the NEET. The suicide triggered a widespread outrage in the state of Tamil Nadu.The brother of the girl was given state government job, as per an assurance made earlier. A cheque of INR 7 lac was handed over to the Anitha’s father Shanmugam by Chief Minister K Palaniswami at the Secretariat. At the same time he presented the brother of the victim, Sathish Kumar, with an appointment order of junior assistant in state-run Tamil Nadu Medical Plant Farms and Herbal Medicine Corporation Limited (TAMPCOL). Compensation and assured job was promised by the TN government earlier, after the girl committed suicide.Anita was 17 year old was upset after the she learnt that the state will not be given exemption from the NEET exam and the admissions in the medical college will done on the basis of marks obtained in the NEET exam.Her suicide sparked a widespread outrage in the state with students and many others protesting against the forceful implementation of the NEET on the state as it was highly disadvantageous to the students of TN state board.
