Public programs in educational institutes banned by Madras HC
The Madras HC has told the Tamil Nadu government to organize only programs in the educational institutes which are related to education. The directive was issued by the Justice N Kirubakaran who was hearing a petition from Kathirvel, who urged the court to restrain the college authorities from organizing a 45 day long exhibition in the college campus of government arts college in Tirupur. The main purpose of the exhibition is to display the government's achievements and schemes. The judge, however, permitted the college to conduct an exhibition in the college subjects. Among other condition, the judge added proper management of traffic and leveling of playground once the exhibition is over. He also ordered that the 25 trees need to be planted for every single tree which was cut. Advocate General Vijay Narayan told the court that the arrangements have been made for the exhibition and there cannot be an order which could restrain the authorities from organizing the exhibition during the last minute. The judge said that any educational institution must be allowed to function without any interference. "The academic atmosphere has to be maintained and should not be vitiated. If the government intends to hold an exhibition to demonstrate their achievements, the same can be done anywhere, except in educational institutions," Justice Kirubakaran said.
