Homeschooling becoming popular among parents now

KEYA Padalkar, a thirteen year old student doesn't go to school any more instead she practices tabla at home and read the Marathi textbooks. She would have been in class 8 had her parents not pulled her out of the regular schooling mode to be home schooled at home.The option of homeschooling the children, is slowly becoming popular among the parents who are now looking for the vocational training.Fairness in Education (FFE), an NGO forum also held two workshops for the parents on homeschooling and it was attended by nearly 180 parents. “With arbitrary hikes in school fees and school campuses becoming unsafe, parents are opting for grooming their children at home,” said Jayant Jain, president of FFE. While there is no specific approach in homeschooling both-- parents and children-- feels relieved of the academic pressure, which is only increasing day by day.“We don't follow a fixed curriculum. Most of our teaching is experimental and is focused on nature and skills. She enjoys playing the tabla so we let her focus,” said Keyaʼs mother Jyoti, an agricultural engineer.“More parents now want to homeschool their kids. This takes off the academic pressure and the children can focus on their creative inclinations,” said Hemali Gada, a member of Swashikshan, an association of parents.In this association, all are the parents who have chosen to homeschool their children.“When my daughter began homeschooling, she became more creative and intuitive. I could immediately see the difference. After completing her boards from the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), she has now gone into junior college. NIOS was more flexible and offered a plethora of courses to choose from.” said Hemali.
