Engineering student from Pune built a solar powered bicycle
Roshan Chumbalkar, a mechanical engineering student from RMD Sinhgad School of Engineering, Warje (Pune) dazzled the city when he developed a custom bicycle which runs on solar power.Commenting on his success Roshan said: "It has always been my dream to build something with the use of solar energy. It took 2 years of planning and execution for building the bicycle and this would not have been possible without the support of my parents and the guidance of my professors at Sinhgad College." Making active efforts towards protecting the environment, Sinhgad Institutes has been actively undertaking variety of seminars and courses on the need and importance of solar energy. As air pollution in increasing at an alarming rate, it is very important to develop the alternate sources of energy to protect the environment and overcome the environmental imbalance.Features of bicycle The manufacturing cost of the bicycle is INR 13,000The bicycle can run up to a maximum speed of 25 km per hour Roshan's bicycle has been recognized by the Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) under their Design Innovation Center (DIC) program.
