Private school fee in UP: A bill to regulate the unchecked rise in the fee

Private schools in UP, who are charging more then 20,000 fee annually may have to stop charging the admission fee or the entire fee at one go from the students. The schools may also be asked to upload their entire fee structure and fee line online by December 31 every year. On Friday, a draft 'Self- financed Independent Schools (Regulation of fees) Bill-2017' was introduced by the UP government with the aim to regulate and keep a check on the fee charged by the private schools. Till December 22, the government is open to the suggestions regarding the bill and once the bill is ratified, it will be binding in nature on Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board, CBSE, ICSE and minority schools up to Class XII. Speaking to mediapersons, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma said, “For the last six months, we have been studying the fee determination proposals and objections raised in states such as Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Delhi and Tamil Nadu. We have consulted parents' associations, roped in experts from the Union HRD Ministry and also studied Supreme Court guidelines before coming out with this draft bill.” When asked whether the bill will be implemented in the next academic session, Sharma said ''It will depend on the suggestions and objections raised".
