Universities and colleges to set up counseling system for the students

In a letter, dated March 8 2018, UGC (University Grants Commission) has reminded all the higher education institutions to set up a 'Student counseling system' which will help in resolving the challenges faced by the students in the higher education institutes. The main aim is to form a system which can effectively bridge the communication gap between the students and institutes. The counseling system is to be set up not only in universities but also, in the colleges where students can avail the services of a trained psychologist as and when the need arises.The setting of the counseling system is a part of the "Guidelines on Safety of Students on and off Campuses of Higher Educational Institutions" as issued by the UGC on April 16, 2015.The counseling system would have the counselors who would remain in the close touch with the students who are assigned to them throughout the year. The main responsibility of the counselors would be to cater to the emotional and intellectual needs of the students and to help them move up in their career.
