A course in Yoga approved by the JNU Council

A course in Yoga approved by the JNU Council

After a long drawn game of rejections and objections by the students and teachers, the top decision making body of the JNU finally approved the JNU's proposal to introduce a short term course in yoga. "A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the Academic Council on Thursday. It will be an excellent idea to celebrate Yoga Day (on June 21) by approving the much-debated course," a senior university official said. The proposal to introduce three short term courses on Indian culture and yoga first came into light in 2015 with an aim to promote India's culture, rich heritage and to restore its cultural identity. After holding various communications with the HRD Ministry and University Grants Commission, the University issued a draft on three courses in its various schools and departments for their views and feedback. The proposal, at first, however, was rejected by the Academic Council (AC), which is university's statutory decision making body. While the course in Yoga Philosophy has been approved by the Academic council, there is yet no word from the officials on the other two courses proposed on Indian Culture. According to the draft proposed the main aim of the course on Indian culture is to propound the importance of the Indian culture and explore its etymological, social, spiritual, cultural and mythological aspects and to establish the Indian values in the world.
