In-service candidates from these three districts will not get extra marks in NEET 2017

On Friday, the Madras High Court announced that candidates working at government hospitals, public health centers and government medical colleges will not be granted extra marks in NEET 2017 exam. Rejecting the order of the state government, the High Court decided the post graduate and diploma medical course selection committee to make necessary changes in their merit lists within the time frame of three days. In its order, the High Court asked the committee to exclude the candidates from categories A, B and C. List A and B comprises of healthcare centers in hilly regions while list C includes government hospitals under DM and RHS which are located in remote and difficult areas. A batch of petition was filed in the High Court on May 6 which demanded the intervention of the High Court against Government order and convinced the bench for the amendment of the prospectus under which grace were allowed to the candidates from the Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Ramanathapuram (TNR) Districts. The petition pointed that since remote and difficult areas are not identified, it is possible for undeserved candidates to gain marks. More than 11 lakh students appeared for the NEET 2017 exam which was held on May 7 at 1921 centers in the 103 cities. This year the exam was conducted by the government in 10 languages which included Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Oriya, Kannada and Telugu.
