Write emails as short as skirts: Textbook teaches students

A BCom (Honours) textbook recently sparked controversy online when it advised students to write emails which are as short and interesting as skirts. The book (Basic Business Communication) which sparked the controversy has been authored by C B Gupta, who is a former head of the commerce department of a college affiliated with Delhi University. The textbook is very famous and is prescribed by professors to BCom (Honours) students in most of the colleges affiliated with the DU.The book describing the importance of short emails said "Email messages should be like skirts, short enough to be interesting and long enough to cover all the vital points". A student, who did not want to be named, said, "Some students from socially and economically weaker sections have a tendency to memorize everything written in the textbooks, without realizing that such analogies may legitimize casual sexism in our society." "Thankfully, we are able to realize and question the reliability of such textbooks in our course. Why didn't anyone question this statement in this book which is being reprinted for years?" she asked. After going viral on social media and causing outrage among the people, professor C B Gupta apologized and expressed his regrets for hurting emotional sentiments of the people and said that the analogy for the mail was taken from a book by foreign author."I have already deleted the statement from my book. I will also advise the publisher to remove the content before publishing the latest edition," Gupta told.
