Team for building 'KalamSat', world's lightest satellite, felicitated



On Thursday, US space agency NASA launched the world's lightest and first 3D printed satellite. The satellite was built by a young team and for this they were felicitated by a social group.Rifath Sharook, an 18 year old student, led the team that built the KalamSat. The satellite is 3.8 cm cube satellite (Femto category) and weighs only 64 gm. The Satellite was launched by a National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) sounding rocket.The satellite is made up of carbon fiber polymer and is fully printed by a 3D printer.In micro-gravity environment the satellite operated for 12 minutes and the main aim of the satellite was to demonstrate the performance of the 3D printed carbon fiber.The team named the satellite after the former President of India, the late APJ Abdul Kalam, said a statement by the All India Social Activist and NGOs Association.
