DU to offer Tamil as an optional language for Journalism course
'Delhi school of Journalism' will soon commence its five-year integrated course on journalism from this academic session under Delhi University. The university now has decided to offer the course in Tamil language, which is spoken in various South Asian countries including Singapore and Malaysia."Learning the language will help the students if they visit these countries", said Prof Maharaj K Pandit, Chairperson, Admission Committee, Delhi University. Besides foreign languages such as Arabic, Spanish, French and Mandarin the course will also be made available in another Indian language, Bengali. According to the officials from the university, for getting admission into the course there will no entrance test and admissions will be made on the basis of merit. "The admission process for the program will be deferred a bit. It will not take place simultaneously with the other programs," said Prof Pandit. The faculty of social science will host the program and if students wish they can quit the course after three years for which they will be given a BA degree. "The course has been prepared in such a way that it produces experts in particular areas of journalism," said Prof Pandit. He further added that if a student is interested in business journalism then he will be taught accordingly and the fee for the course would be 60,000 per semester and in the current academic year only 60 students will be admitted for the course.
