IGNOU's food processing lab inaugurated by the Harsimrat Kaur Badal

IGNOU's new food processing lab at the School of Agriculture was inaugurated by the Minister of Food Processing Industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal.The lab will act as a study center and research lab for the IGNOU's on-going programs and will provide the students hands on experience and skill development in the area of food processing.The lab will also be used by the university for providing training in various short term courses related ensuring the quality of food for the consumers.While addressing the University at the inauguration, the Minister said that there is a need to enhance the growth of the food processing industry in the nation. She also highlighted the fact that at present only 10% of the food gets processed and by increasing the food processing industry in India will help in minimizing the wastage of the food which in turn will save crore of rupees which can be used for the betterment of the farmers. He also stressed the fact that there is a need to build manpower which is not only trained but also, skilled.She complemented and congratulated IGNOU for the new food processing lab and said that this could be used to train the manpower in the industry which can act as an employment generator especially, for women.Prof. Ravindra Kumar, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU while addressing the University, thanked the ministry for providing the financial assistance to the university in setting the lab up.
