Ryan Murder case: CBSE issued safety guidelines to the schools

Keeping in mind the strict safety of the children after the Ryan Murder case, CBSE has issued the circular to all its affiliate schools to ensure that the children studying in their school are safe. Besides directing the schools to install CCTV cameras in the premises, CBSE has also instructed the schools to carry police verification of the staff and to control the entry of outsiders inside the school premises. These directives were issued by the CBSE in the wake of Ryan murder case in which a dead body of class 2 boy was found in the school toilet with its throat slit. Another incident which shook everyone was the alleged rape of 5 year old girl in a Delhi school. In the circular, CBSE clearly states that “the onus for safety and security of children in school campus shall solely lie upon the school authorities. It is a fundamental right of a child to engage and study in an environment where he/she feels safe and is free from any form of physical or emotional abuse or harassment”. Taking the security and safety of children seriously, on Wednesday, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal asked Deputy Chief Minister and the Education Minister Manish Sisodia to make the safety and security measures suggested by the stakeholders compulsory for the recognition of the schools in the city. LG also suggested that the security measures suggested by the CBSE and DCPCR to be considered strictly as a binding requirement for 'grant and continuation ofrecognition of schools under the Delhi School Education Act and Rules'. North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), the mayor said, “All school principals have been directed to ensure that staff members reach 15 minutes before the scheduled opening time and leave the premises 15 minutes after the students have left. Besides, the principal would be responsible for any movement of teachers out of a school during duty hours,” she said.
