Ryan Murder case: Staff from 124 schools taught about safety and security measures

The district administration on Sunday briefed nearly about 10,000 staff members from 124 schools about the safety and security measures for the children including the principals of the schools.Procedures for safety audit were also taught to the staffer members during the workshop. District Magistrate (DM) B N Singh said "as per guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), schools have to constitute a parent-teacher-students committee to address safety issues. Schools also have to constitute separate committee for redressal of grievances of people, staffers, parents and students". He further said that there is a need to form internal committees in the schools to handle the complaints of the sexual harassment and those under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012.And forming such committees is not enough their contact details need to be displayed on the school notice board and school website.“It is a fundamental right of a child to engage and study in an environment where he or she feels safe and is free from any form of physical or emotional abuse or harassment,” Singh said. The workshop regarding the safety and security of the children was held in two phases. In the first phase principals and teachers were briefed about the security and in the second phase security guards, drivers and conductors were made aware of their duties.
