The main aim of starting these course in ancient Indian culture is to face the challenges of modernity.According to state Education Minister Vijay Shah, these courses will start from this year.Addressing a two day national workshop on Astrology in Bhopal, the minister also said that these are the part of ancient Indian culture and government will take all the necessary steps to prevent and promote them."Astrology, vaastu, and purohit vidya, are an important part of Indian's ancient culture. State government will take necessary steps for their conservation and promotion. The school education department will start a one-year course to study these subjects from this very year," Mr. Shah said. After complaining how our country's ancient culture is getting affected by the modernity of the society the minister commented 'astrology impacts human lives, the courses of events and climate change. We need to study astrology to understand these changes'. He further announced that the workshops on different topics of "science of astrology" and their "relevance in today's world" will be conducted in every district headquarter. Petition filed in HC regarding the uneven distribution of Science and Commerce stream in Delhi Schools

Petition filed in HC regarding the uneven distribution of Science and Commerce stream in Delhi Schools

On Tuesday, Deli government was asked to map the schools across the city indicating the availability of science and commerce streams. The directions were sent to the government of Delhi after Delhi High Court received a petition regarding the uneven distribution of the science and commerce streams in the schools of Delhi. The plea said that numerous schools in the capital are part of 'shadow pockets' and they do not offer science and commerce streams in their schools. “There are a total of 41 government schools in central Delhi, wherein only 2 schools offer science stream throughout the entire district, whereas in north east district of Delhi, there are as many as 18 schools out of total 38 which offer science stream at intermediate level,” said the plea.According to the court, there will be a map of government and government aided schools which will list the availability of the streams in the schools. The matter will be heard on Feb 26, 2018 and Delhi government and CBSE have been asked by the court to file their responses to the petition.During the hearing, Ramesh Singh of Delhi government said that there is no complaint from any students about not getting the school in 3 km range of his house. The plea, on the other hand alleged that "there is “non uniformity and ‘cherry-picking’ practice” in the offering of streams to students at the intermediate level in government schools."“Though there are government educational institutions offering science and commerce streams at intermediate level, the distribution of such schools offering science and commerce streams is alarmingly uneven. It is evident from the government records that there are ‘shadow pockets’ in different regions of Delhi that do not offer science and commerce streams at all, in their academic curriculum,” the plea said.

For complete details on the education, BJP government demanded white paper from Delhi government

Vijender Gupta, Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, on Tuesday demanded a white paper from the Delhi government for the comprehensive view of the status of education in New Delhi. He said that despite the claims of the government there are various short comings in the claims of the government."The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government must come out with a "white paper" on the status of school education in Delhi, in view of the latest comprehensive data released by its education department," he said. The data revealed that there is a sharp decline in the number of students appearing for the exams of classes 10th and 12th as well as in the pass percentage of the students from these classes. Further referring to the data he said that school education is also suffering from the lack of 27,000 teachers.Reacting to the allegations of Mr Gupta, Atishi Marlena, the Education Advisor to Mr Sisodia, said "8,000 new classrooms were built in the government schools with pre-fabricated cement blocks during the AAP regime and that these classrooms were not "kachcha" by any stretch of imagination. Also, the city government had identified more than 100 pieces of land belonging to some of its other departments for building schools.""Yes, we inherited some schools that we're running in 4 shifts due to overcrowding. This is the reason we have undertaken a massive infrastructure expansion to ease this pressure (sic)," he wrote on the micro-blogging website, Twitter.

Tushar, the boy PM Modi talked about in Mann ki Baat

"You will be amazed to learn that Tushar, an eight year old differently - abled, Divyang lad from Madhya Pradesh had taken a firm resolve to make his village Open defecation free," Prime Minister Narendra Modi told the nation in his Mann Ki Baat address "It was a young boy vis-a-vis an enormous task at hand. But his grit and determination were exponentially greater and mightier," PM Modi talked. Tushar is eight year old and is speech impaired but uses whistle as an armament. To make his village free from open defecation, Tushar would woke up at 5 in the morning, awaken the villagers one by one and wean them away from Open defecation. Now his village is free from open defecation. Thanks to the efforts of Tushar who spread the message of cleanliness by visiting 30 to 40 houses every day."This proves that cleanliness suffers from no barriers of age; there are no boundaries. A child or an elderly person, a woman or a man, everyone needs cleanliness. And everyone should contribute towards the cause of cleanliness. Our Divyang brothers and sisters are firm in their resolve; they are competent, capable, courageous and determined, PM Modi said."

Maharashtra board decreased the marks for the Arts and Culture in class 10 board exams

Maharashtra board decreased the marks for the Arts and Culture in class 10 board exams

Under the revised rules for awarding the extra marks to the students of class 10 who excel in arts and culture, the government has decreased the marks limit to 15 marks from 25 marks which were given earlier. In addition to the additional marks given in sports, in March 2017 the board for the first time gave extra marks for the arts and cultural activities to the students of class 10. Under the system, nearly 80,000 students benefited from the extra marks and as many as 193 students received the 100 percent marks in the exams. After the results were declared, principals of several schools admitted that students benefited extremely from the policy of extra marks and this leads to their high scores in the exam. The new decision of awarding 15 marks instead of 25 marks will come into effect from SSC exams due in 2018.

Children with special needs to get free education till age 18

Children with special needs to get free education till age 18

According to the new orders from the center, every child with special needs will get free education till the age of 18 years and the states have been asked by the HRD to introduce necessary changes in the exam pattern and curriculum to accommodate such children and their needs into the system. According to the reports from HT, such provisions could include extra time to complete the exam, facility of scribe or amanuensis and exemption from second and third language course. Also, referring to the Rights of Persons with Disability (RPwD) Act, HRD ministry asked the head of the state education departments to ensure that the schools within their jurisdiction have classrooms which supports conducive learning so that children with special needs can study with others. The decision was taken after receiving the complaints most of which said that the schools have been denying the admission to the children with special needs despite the clear provision in the RPwD Act for such children. "The appropriate government and local authorities shall ensure that every child with benchmark disability has access to free education in an appropriate environment till he attains the age of eighteen years in a special school or inclusive neighbourhood schools as per his choice," the ministry said a recent communication to the states, referring to the RPwD Act provisions which provide for it. Teachings of pre-school leave impacts on young children

Teachings of pre-school leave impacts on young children

According to the researchers, the instructional practices given by the teachers to children in pre-school play an important role in shaping their academic careers and social skills. “High quality pre-school is one of the most effective means of preparing all children to succeed in school. However, this review of research indicates the need to expand our definitions of quality,” said Margaret Burchinal, senior research scientist at the Frank Porter Graham Child Development Institute (FPG) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The review was published in the journal named Child Development Perspectives and helps in untangling a complicated node of factors which affect the young children and their growth. “The largest effects on child outcomes involve curricula. Some of the biggest impacts on literacy, math and other skills involved curricula focused on those specific skills with accompanying coaching or training for teachers,” Burchinal explained. The project used intensive language driven approach to guide the children in activity based learning which helps in building the children's knowledge base and language skills.“As we think about the components of high-quality early childhood education, our policies and practices can reflect what this research tells us,” Burchinal said.“Ideally, our new models of quality will encompass evidence-based curricula and intentional teaching within content areas, as well as professional development that focuses on the teaching practices that promote the skills young children need to succeed in school,” Burchinal noted.

Caste Politics is the reason for the decline of the Lucknowʼs Ambedkar University: UGC report

Caste Politics is the reason for the decline of the Lucknowʼs Ambedkar University: UGC report

A recent audit report backed by the government said that the Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow is in a state of 'complete and practically irreversible decline and collapse'.The reason cited in the report for the decline is the division in the University along the lines of castes which led to unruliness within the university at all levels be it physical, academic or administrative. "The “final death knell” of the university is the “role of caste and the part it has played in completely polarising the institution into various groups, special interests, political groupings”", the report said. The report also said that the quality of students is not at par with the desired standards of the central university. The university was established in 1996 and was named after the Dalit icon of the nation. On April 25, five committees were setup by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in order to conduct an “academic, research, financial and infrastructure audit” of 10 central universities, including BR Ambedkar University, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Pondicherry University and Allahabad University. The committees were set up on the order of HRD Ministry which had asked the UGC to conduct the audit following the complaints from some groups regarding the functioning of the institutions. The university is open to all the caste and systems but was set up with a specific purpose to help the students of the lower caste groups as 50% of the seats of all programs of the university are reserved for the lower caste group. The report mentioned “rebellious and destructive attitudes of some of the SC/ST staff and their feelings of entitlements cross reasonable limits and doubtless they are a major polarising and debilitating influence on the students and non-teaching community”.“The victims of this entire educational ‘experimentʼ are the students. The student community is totally divided on caste lines and even the staff and faculty have the similar divisions,” the report said.

To prevent the glitches relevant steps have been taken: Mumbai University to Bombay HC

On Friday, Mumbai University assured the Bombay HC that it has taken all the necessary steps to ensure that the problems faced with the introduction of the on-screen assessment system during the summer semester are not repeated in the winter semester.“The technical glitches encountered by the university in the bygone examination, are taken care of and streamlined,” stated an affidavit filed by the university through its advocate Rui Rodrigues. Rui also clarified that all the anxieties raised in various petitions have been taken care of. “You have miserably failed,” pointed out the court, to which, Rodrigues said this did not mean “that they would fail again”. He also informed the court that university is continuing with the same service provider and has also added a five minute video tutorial which is compulsory for all the teachers to view.“It is only when they have finished watching the video that the fist answer booklet will be provided to them for carrying out assessment. Such a procedure has been established to avoid any lacunae or technical difficulties,” it said.A meeting was also held with the teachers to further streamline the system. “The principal secretary of higher education should filed a reply in this matter by next Wednesday,” said the court.

JDA continues to demolish illegal construction of NIMS

JDA continues to demolish illegal construction of NIMS

On Saturday, JDA continued its drive to demolish the illegal hostel constructions of the National Institute of Medical Sciences University (NIMS) campus. Teams evacuated the four hostel buildings situated in the catchment area of Ramgarh dam before demolishing the illegal constructions. The teams are also involved in removing the derbies from the land and as temporary measure they are dumping all the derbies at a nearby vacant land in Achrol, which is situated 2-km away from the campus location. Earlier, JDA also decided to demolish the remaining illegal construction using the controlled detonation technique but for now the idea is on hold as JDA is waiting for the JDA commissioner, Vaibhav Galeriya, to return from the foreign tour as the detonation expert is demanding an unreasonable high price for the job. According to senior JDA official, "Expert S B Sarvate has demanded assistance of a consultant and Rs 45 lakh to demolish these buildings. The JDA has approved to provide a consultant, however, it has not decided to pay such hefty amount. The final decision will be taken once JDC is back." According to the sources, some buildings were demolished in 2012 using the controlled detonation technique and during that time Sarvate charged INR 7 lakh for the work, In five year, the price has gone insignificantlyhigh. "The expert has reasoned that numbers of pillars in these four hostels are more and usage of explosives will be more," added an official. According to the officials, university has intruded upon 8,125 square meter of land. Following the order of the SC, JDA issued notice to the NIMS to remove the illegal construction from the land. The drive was initiated because NIMS failed to follow the orders.
