Dayal Singh (Morning) College distributed feedback forms to access the teachers

DU's Dayal Singh (Morning) college want to access its teachers and want to know from the students whether teachers are regular in class, open-minded and has interest in the subject or not. These are some of the questions which are part of the feedback form which the college distributed to its students. The move from the college has irked some of the teachers and they are calling it the “action against the academic community”. Students who have more than 70 percent attendance are only eligible to fill the feedback form.The first part of the form asks the students about the stream they are studying, the marks they scored in previous semester and if they have the intentions to pursue a career in the same stream.The second part of the form asks students few yes/no type questions.The questions are: Is he/she (the teacher) interested in the subject?Does he possess sympathetic attitude towards students?Is he fair in marking?Is he open-minded?Does he enjoy teaching?Does he stimulate intellectual curiosity?Is he able to present subject matter well?Does he have command over the subject?Was daily class work/ course well organised?Do you have opportunity to interact with the teacher?Was he regular in engaging classes?Did he engage classes for the complete allotted time?Did he evaluate you through assignment/test?Was he available to address your queries beyond class hours? Students have also been asked to write about what they like best in their teacher.But the move from the college has been criticized by the teachers. Naveen Gaur, a teacher at the college, said, “It is obvious that teachers who are liberal and not very strict will get better feedback. This is going to affect the teaching-learning process. Other colleges might also be taking such feedback, but this is one of the worst kind of documents we have seen.”
