Falling standards of Maharashtra University; Senior Professor resigns

A senior professor of Department of Communication and Journalism of University of Mumbai has resigned from the university saying that the standards of the university are falling every day. The senior professor, Sanjay Ranade, is also an accused in the atrocities case and is one of the founding members of the department. In the letter he said that he would not report for duty from December 11.“It is a conscience call I have taken. The university has been running without proper leadership for a long time and things donʼt appear to change any time soon,” the 50-year-old professor told The Indian Express. “At this point, there are no full-time administrators or decision-makers. The standard of education is poor. I have considered all my options, taken advice from colleagues and come to this decision,” said Ranade. Rande wrote "I lend my credibility and competence to the university when I was called upon to start the Department of Communication and Journalism in August 2003. It appears now the university has no need for either. This could have been conveyed to me in a more professional and gentlemanly fashion. My reputation has come after a lot of passionate work. My competence you cannot take away".Dinesh Kamble, University Registrar, said that he is not aware of the development. “If he has indeed resigned, we will consider what is to be done and due process will be followed,” he said.
