UGC to make Father's name on the degree certificate optional

UGC to make Father's name on the degree certificate optional

Prakash Javadekar told a news agency in an interview that UGC will soon come up with a proposal which will make the printing on Father's name on the degree document optional. "We are okay with the idea. Whether the student wants to mention mother's name or father's name should be his or her choice," Mr Javadekar said in the interview. "We like the concept and have no objection to it. The UGC will work on it soon," he added. This suggestion was made by the Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi and HRD ministry in principal have agreed to the decision.Such concerns were raised by single mothers following which, Menaka Gandhi wrote to Mr. Javadekar and asked him to change the rule which requires Father's name to be mandatory on the degree certificates of the students. "I have been approached by several women who are separated from their husbands and who face problems getting degree certificates issued for their children without their father's name," Ms Gandhi said in the letter. In the letter Gandhi mentioned that breaking of marriages is one reality and the rules must reflect it. "Keeping in view the sensitivity of the single/separated mother, we need to make a provision for this purpose by changing rules/guidelines," she said in the letter.Last year on the request by MS Gandhi, Ministry of External Affairs revised the passport application rules and announced that the name of only one parent is required to apply for the passport.

Minister says it's great that most of the students failed the Bihar board exams

Minister says it's great that most of the students failed the Bihar board exams

Bihar, who is accustomed to failing grade in education, has managed to keep the same tradition alive this year as well. Hardly, over one third of the students of class 12 managed to pass the board exams. Compared to last year, this year's pass percentage is 35% which was 62% last year. But, Ashok Choudhary, who is the education minister, managed to find a reason to celebrate in this result as well as he claimed that this year's low pass percentage is the result of government's effort to stop the cheating in the board exams. This year Bihar board used the answer sheets which had bar code on them. The pass percentage from the Science stream was 66% last year and this year it was slashed by about 30% this year. Arts stream was also witnessed the same downfall in the results as the success rate flopped from 57 percent last year to 37 percent this year.In 2015 the state found itself in international headlines when parents and friends were found scaling walls of the examination center to help examinees pass the exams. Last year board found itself in the news due to topper scam in which toppers had hired others to impersonate them during the exams. The topper of the Arts stream Ruby Rai made headlines when she said in an interview that political science teaches cooking. In order to improve the performance of the Bihar's students Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has ordered a massive exercise but not much has changed in the situation.

Grace marks will not be mentioned on mark sheets: CBSE

Grace marks will not be mentioned on mark sheets: CBSE

If you are one or two marks short to pass and a CBSE student, then you now have a reason to rejoice as board has decided not to mention the grace marks on the mark sheets of the students. Last month, it was decided by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that it will mention the grace marks on the mark sheets of the students. In the same meeting, the decision to scrap the moderation policy was also taken by the board. However, after board decided to continue with moderation policy; it also decided the revoke the decision of mentioning grace marks on the mark sheets of the students. "We have decided not to mention the grace marks on the mark sheets" a senior CBSE official said. At the time of decision few states expressed their anxiety and feared that grace marks can be perceived as a stigma by colleges and other institutions. On the other hands others argued that not mentioning the grace marks on the mark sheets is injustice to those children who passed without extra marks. The results for the CBSE class 12 were declared on the Sunday and it witnessed the dip of 1.05% in the pass percentage of the children.

Dreams Shattered? Handling low scores and poor exam results

Dreams Shattered? Handling low scores and poor exam results

Like exam season, this time of the year is the season of results and with all the board announcing the results of the board exams, students find this time particularly hard to cope with. The happiness of post-exams turn into nightmares where days are spent in worrying about getting admission in colleges and night in thinking about the worst possible scenario which can happen. All this become very appalling because in many cases days and nights of stress and worry drive students to take steps like suicide and according to 2012 Lancet report, India has one of the highest suicide rates of youth in the world. So, if you did not do well in your exams then below are some points to keep in mind as nothing in this world is greater than the life itself.Focus on bigger pictureIf in case you did not perform well in your class 10 exam then don’t worry much because you still have two years for class 12 exams and think twice before criticizing yourself or blaming friends, parents, study atmosphere etc. They are all insignificant if you are determined. However, if you did not do well in class 12 then you still didn’t earn the right to criticize yourself instead now is the time to take a look at the bigger picture and explore what you are good at because out there, there are way too many opportunities than being a Doctor, Engineer or CA.Be open to changesAs a student, while you are still 15 to 18 years old can't remain stuck to one thing because during this period of time, especially, in Indian society, decisions are made either by the parents or under the pressure of the society. You have to realize that you are free to change them.Take time to recoverIt's not like that you scored poor today and tomorrow you are working hard to achieve success. Just like becoming successful takes time, so does it take to deal with disappointments. Continues hard work can even decrease your productivity and besides you need to reset your brain.Don’t compareComparison is not good because in comparing you are trying to be like someone which you are not. For a happy and successful life it is important to accept you own skills and be proud of them. Instead of wasting time in comparison it better to use that energy to hone your own skill set.Understand the generation gapChildren of today's generation want to live the life to the fullest even if it does not have a badge of engineer or doctor. While for parents a career with good money may still be a priority and they couldn't care less about the career being interesting and adventurous. See through this gap and try to talk to your parents.

Ragging, in all forms, needs to be eliminated from campuses: Prakash Javadekar

Criticizing ragging in all its forms, Union Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar said that it is important to eliminate ragging from campuses. To support the same cause, an anti-ragging app has been launched by University Grants Commission (UGC) which will help students and make it easier for them to register their complaints against ragging. Talking about the same Prakash Javadekar said "physical and mental torture of a new student won't be tolerated by the government and the new app will work as a handy tool for any student who goes through such experience". He also promised that immediate action will be taken by the government on any complaint received through the app."It is a good step for protection and will give a feeling of security to students," he said. He also cautioned the students who indulge themselves in ragging and said that if found they will not be allowed to continue their education any further in the institution. "At the same time they will meet severe penalty and punishment as per the law," he said.At the same time he hoped that seniors will help their juniors and act as responsible mentors for them and guide them in the right direction.

After Farrago made debut on Twitter the whole nation went Farrago

After Farrago made debut on Twitter, the whole nation went Farrago

After Shashi Tharoor took Twitter to respond back to the Arnab Goswami, little he had idea that his peculiar choice of English words would drive the whole nation crazy. Surely, after the suspense of Kattapa and Mahendra Bahubali, 'farrago' was the next thing to haunt the minds of the Indian People.  Shashi Tharoor like always took the micro-blogging platform Twitter to affront his source of frustration because of the series of allegations against him by the Republic TV. But, suddenly the joke turned on him and poor MP found himself under the siege, as he became a laughingstock for tweeting an incomprehensible tweet. Not only the nation but also, Google was bombarded with the queries related to the word 'farrago'. Despite being unable to understand the words, people fell in love so much with the words that they started using it right away in and for all sorts of situations and circumstances. Seeing all the memes and jokes on Twitter the MP retaliated but that further made him the central subject of everyone's jokes on Twitter. The word 'farrago' is quite old and has its origin in 17th century but due to ever changing nature of English language it is used no more. Not in everyday conversation, anyway! Simply put, the word 'farrago' is just a convenient way of saying 'bunch of lies'. The word “Farrago” and “Masquerading” certainly trended in India for some reason but how many of us actually wanted to know the meaning. With U-Dictionary, users can find meanings at any language they want without much of a hassle in offline mode.  “The major advantage of U-Dictionary over other apps is that it can show various definitions clearly at a relatively smaller size. This addresses the key concern of data savvy users who can use the app with less data, and that’s why we made our App both in Online and Offline mode.” https://www.brainbuxa.com/blog/learn-english-at-ease Nevertheless, the whole nation at least learned one new word on the day and such vocabulary lesson are welcomed from our Ministers. Even our editors are also using “U-Dictionary” As we find it very interactive and easy to use offline tool. You can download U-app from Play Store Download Here

No online entrance exams for M.Phil. and PG programs in DU

No online entrance exams for M.Phil. and PG programs in DU

Delhi University has put on hold its decision to hold to conduct online entrance tests for MPhil, PhD and PG programs as conducting both online and offline test will not be feasible for the University. In a meeting held on May 19, the standing committee had given approval for conducting both tests i.e. online and offline for MPhil, PhD and PG programs but the decision attracted criticism from the students circle as they said online test will prove to be a disadvantage for the students from the rural area. The committee finally decided to stick to the offline mode of the exams after a meeting was held on Saturday in which they concluded that dual mode of examination is unfeasible. "Logistics involved in conducting both kinds of examinations were not feasible. Several stakeholders were consulted and it was found that it needed a large exercise," a member of Standing Committee for Admissions told PTI. "Diverting the same resources for two examinations would not only involve more cost but also manpower. Also time is very short," the member said. The offline test will be held in six major centers, namely, Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, Guwahati, Nagpur, and Bangalore or Chennai.Nest year the University plans to start the exercise a bit early to see that if this approach can be taken forward. Registrations for the entrance exam based courses such as PG, MPhil and PhD will began on May 31.

TISS Admissions: Aadhaar card mandatory from now own

If you are planning to pursue your studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (TISS), then possessing an Aadhaar card is mandatory for you. This is applicable to current students as well otherwise the institute will be forced to discontinue their admission. The institute has also issued an official circular in the same regard to all students. Registrar CP Mohan of the institute said "those joining the institute for the third semester will have to register their bio-metric and Aadhaar card details with the institute before June 8." The circular read "Biometric attendance is an institutional norm and all students are required to follow it. Students who are unable to provide their fingerprint and submit their Aadhar card will be deemed to have discontinued from the program of study at TISS". Reason for the decisionTISS director S Parasuraman said the decision was taken so that the tabs on the scholarships can be kept, which students receive directly from the government."Sometimes the government transfers scholarship funds directly to the accounts of the students, who do not inform us of the same. The students continue to get funds from the institute," said Parasuraman. The Aadhaar details will help the institute to track the transfer of the funds.Students who will be taking admission into first semester, all the administrative formalities need to be completed during the verification of the certificates. There are several steps mentioned in the circular which students need to follow otherwise their admission will be discontinued from the institution.

Photos of President, PM and CM made mandatory by the Chhattisgarh government in schools

Government of Chhattisgarh has mandated for all the government schools in Chhattisgarh to put up the photographs of the President, Prime Minister and Chief Minister. Not only this, but also a deadline of June 30 has also been given to schools and according to the reports the order has been passed by the government of Chhattisgarh in order to make the environment for studying better. According to the reports from India Express, the order has been addressed to all district education officers in the state. The order also reiterates the order of the previous government which asked government schools to put up the photographs of the teachers under the heading "Our respected teachers" and to comply by the order till June 30. The order reads "Photographs of the Honorable President, Honorable Prime Minister and Honorable Chief Minister should also be put up. For this the Pathya Pustak Nigam will acquire photographs from the Jansampark department, and then be made available to the districts. It will be the responsibility of the district education officers that the photographs be (put) in place by June 30." Not only this but all the primary schools in the state have been asked by the government to put mirrors of dimension 42x18 inches at an appropriate place so that students can see whether they are clean or not. "The benefits of the use of the mirror such as staying clean and its positive effect on health can be given in the assemblies. This too must be completed by June 30," says the two-page letter, adding that the work must be otherwise the responsibility of failure will be on district education officials.Criticisng the order, Leader of opposition in the assembly said "This is a complete waste of public money for personal benefit. If there have to be photographs of anyone at all, it should be of people who have inspired education, and not political leaders who may or may not be here beyond their terms. Politics must certainly be kept away from schools, and the children who study in them".
