Vacant teachers' post in Allahabad University: HRD ministry to look into the matter
The Allahabad high court directed the Ministry of Human Resource and Development to look into the matter of vacant teachers' posts in the Allahabad University and fill them up with the proper procedural and timely selection process. The order was passed by the division bench comprising the justices AP Sahi and DS Tripathi in response to the petition filed by the Mahendra Shankar Singh, a guest lecturer in Geography department of AU. The petitioner had challenged that the varsity is not paying him the salary since 2015 and sough the payment of all his dues besides the regularization of his services in university in wake of vacant posts for teachers in the department. The court directed the university to clear all his dues within three days and to allow him as a guest lecturer for the current academic session. However, the court did not issue any order on regularizing the services of petitioner observing "laws governing part-time faculty members clearly state when a university can appoint a guest lecturer and the period for which such an appointment can be made"."Therefore, a university cannot let guest lecturers to continue for an unlimited period of time on the ground that it has not conducted any selection process for teachers for long," it said.
