Teachings of Gautam Buddha to be taught in schools



Prakash Javadekar, Human Resource Development Minister said that the teachings of Buddha will soon be included in school curriculum and in NCERT textbooks. Highlighting the need of Buddha's teaching in the present day scenario, the minister said, all students will soon start reading about the Mahatma's ideas about life.This announcement was made by Praskash Javadekar on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti."Politics gives us resources to live life but a Mahatma like Buddha teaches us 'why to live' and 'how to live' so it is important to include him in our education system," Javadekar said."Teachings of Gautama Buddha are ideas of life (Jeevan ke Vichar). We will definitely include Buddha in our curriculum, as his teachings give a right direction to life," he added.Minister further added that efforts will be made so that the teachings of the Buddha reach students at all- primary, middle and higher levels.This step has been taken so that education imparted to the students become complete and not only a resource for gaining the employment.More on the report The celebration event was organized by the cultural ministry on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti.At the event, eminent Buddhism scholar, SR Bhatt, was also felicitated by the HRD Minister. On the occasion of celebration Cultural Minsiter Mahesh Sharma said "Buddha's messages are relevant even today as they were at that time. His vision was scientific."Javadekar said, the purpose of the education is to impart knowledge and education but this is just one part of the education. The main aim is to give society complete and good human beings.
