India's first Smart Grid Project generated by IIEST
India's first smart grid project which is capable of generating the power from renewable sources of energy has been developed by India Institute of Science and Technology and will soon be inaugurated by the President Pranab Mukherjee. How the grid will work"The smart grid will be synchronized to generate power from solar, wind and vegetable waste resources, depending on the weather conditions and availability of waste products. It is the first of its kind in the country," IIEST Director Prof Ajoy Kumar Roy said. "The power to be generated from solar energy depends on the availability of sunlight while wind energy will be produced during nor'wester and tropical storm. The power from biogas will be generated from vegetable waste collected from the campus kitchen and outside markets," the professor said. Roy told, with the project we are aiming to generate 32 KW of the power from whichever source is available and will synchronize the smart to take the power in the system. This way we will not be depended on one source. He further said, with the depletion of hydrocarbon sources the world will face some situation in terms of lack of energy. Also the coal-hydrocarbon based sources leads to degradation of the environment the future lies with the renewable energy and technology based on it.''The government planners and academicians should be involved in big way as technology is changing very-very fast. The next 50 years will witness unimaginable change in technology, which cannot be static," he added.
