Class 12 marks likely to be dipped by 10 percent cut-offs in DU may come down

Class 12 marks likely to be dipped by 10 percent, cut-offs in DU may come down

With the scrapping of the moderation of marks policy by the Central Board of Secondary Education it is possible that the class 12 marks will see a dip of 10 percent. The decision to scrap the moderation policy was passed in a high level meeting which was organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and was attended by the school education secretary Anil Swarup. The scrapping is likely to affect the cut-offs in the Delhi University as well during the admissions.Statements from senior official"The board has adopted the consensus on the issue of moderation of marks. This is expected to result in a drop in marks scored as well as a marginal dip in the pass percentage. This is likely to be the trend across boards," said a senior CBSE official in a recent TOI report. More on the report CBSE and State boards have been increasing the marks of the students in the pastAccording to the reports "CBSE gave 16 extra marks in the Class 12 Math exam in 2016 in all-India set of papers and 15 marks in Delhi set during the process of standardization". About moderation of marks In simple language, the marks attained by the students are changes to align with the marking standards of different examiners.Students are awarded up to 15 percent extra marks if the question paper is deemed tough. This practice was held responsible for the inflation of the results across the school boards According to a report published in March, it was claimed that the number of students obtaining 95 percent and above marks in class 12 exams conducted by CBSE rose 23 times in six years i.e. from 384 in 2008 to 8,971 in 2014.
