Delhi govtʼs Chunauti scheme now in civic bodies' schools

Schools run by MCD in Delhi will soon witness the implementation of 'Chunauti' scheme run by the govt. of Delhi. The main aim of the scheme is to boost the learning among the students of the government schools between classes 1 and 5.The scheme was started by the govt. last year in order to help the children of the government schools to improve their learning and writing abilities. The scheme was launched after the govt. found out that 74% of the children in class VI could not even read properly. After the scheme was launched, the children were divided into two groups namely-- Pratibha (reader) and Nishtha (non-reader). The groups were formed on the basis of child's knowledge in subjects like Hindi, English and mathematics.Students belonging to the 'Nistha' group were given reading material in form of books called 'Pragati' and were tested on the basis of their reading ability. In the Delhi State Education Council meeting on Wednesday it was decided that the scheme should be extended to the schools running under the governance of MCD. "In the meeting, it was decided that the scheme to improve learning and writing abilities will be introduced even at the primary level (in all schools)," said Education Minister Manish Sisodia. Through the state education council, the scheme will be shared with the corporation."The sub-committee comprising education officers of the corporation have been told that they can use the training modules and materials, which have been developed for the Directorate of Education (DoE) schools. How they implement it is the prerogative of the corporation," said Saumya Gupta, Director, DoE."
