With IIT Delhi re-structuring, new departments and schools to come soon



On Thursday, V Ramgopal Rao, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi Director said that IIT-Delhi is gearing up for restructuring and with changes new schools and departments will be introduced soon from next year.He was addressing the press conference organized in the backdrop of the convocation ceremony on November 4. Compared to last year, this year a total of 1964 students will receive their degrees on the convocation ceremony. Last year, a total of 1941 students had received the degrees on convocation ceremony. As a part of restructuring, the institute will get two new schools namely School of Public Policy and School of Interdisciplinary Research along with new departments -- Department of Design and Department of Material Science and Engineering. Rao said "These days, the aesthetics of a product has become as important as its functionality. Therefore, we will be starting a Department of Design, which will offer UG, PG and PhD courses. It has got approval from the Board of Studies and will include faculty who're not necessarily from the field of engineering."For the first time, this year's convocation will also witness the presence of 2 girls and boys from Navodaya schools across the country as per the wishes of the president.
