CBSE: National flag should be respected in schools



All the schools affiliated to the CBSE have been directed by the body to strictly follow the code of the national flag and it is their responsibility to make sure that national honor is not insulted. According to the code, the tricolor should only be made of hand-woven wool, khadi, cotton or silk and should be used for any commercial purpose. A circular was also released by the board regarding the same which asks for a strict compliance of the 'Flag Code of India 2002' and 'The prevention of insults to the national Honor Act, 1971.' What does the code say? "If the flag is to be hoisted at schools or any educational institution, the school shall assemble in the open square formation with pupils forming three side and flag-staff at the center of the fourth side," the code says. Prevention of insults to National Honor Act As per the prevention of insults to national honor act; burning, defacing, mutilation, destruction and trampling of the tricolor is not allowed in the public places and anywhere within the public view.
