There is a need for higher investment in defense research: JNU Vice Chancellor
M Jagadesh Kumar, JNU's vice chancellor, said that in order to address the issues surrounding the country's defense there is a strict need to invest more in the research related to defense so that indigenous technology and solutions can be developed. Kumar was speaking at a long-day seminar on 'Comprehensive View of India's National Security' and said "one of the ways to address India's security concerns is to invest more in defense research to develop indigenous defense technologies". He also urged to make the security policies regarding the country more opaque which will make it difficult for the rival countries to neutralize the nation's security cover. Former Army Chief General (retired) J J Singh, former foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal and former defense secretary Shekhar Dutt were also present in the seminar. Singh said, "India's diplomacy, army and other bureaucracy needs a policy of integration to deal with modern international relations and security and study of India's geography is important to secure our borders."Sibal said, "Indian diplomacy, army and the country's current leadership had a very clear success in the Dokalam crisis with China. India's position stands vindicated".
