NEET exam conducted successfully: 11 lakh aspirants appeared

On Sunday, over 11 lakh MBBS and BDS aspirants appeared for the NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance) exam. The national level eligibility test was conducted in over 1900 test centers spread across the nation. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) was in-charge of conducting the exam and to make sure the exam proceedings went smoothly, it had also deployed 490 officials across all center spread in 103 cities. "The exam was conducted from 10 am to 1 pm in offline mode in 10 languages at 1,921 centers in 103 cities for 65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS seats,” a senior board official said.A total of 11,38,890 candidates appeared for the exam out of which 1522 were non-resident Indians and 613 were foreigners. "490 CBSE officials were deployed in 103 cities to personally supervise the exam. Besides city coordinators of CBSE schools, 3,500 observers were also appointed,” the official said. After the declaration of the results for the single window entrance exam to MBBS and BDS, the data will passed to Health Ministry, which in turn will coordinate with the respective states for the counseling and admissions.Earlier CBSE used to conduct the NEET for only 15% quota of all seats and rest was conducted by the state. Last year the exam was conducted in two phases and from this year the test has been converted to single window exam.
