PG Diploma in mental health at IGNOU: Apply before August 18

A new course has been launched by the School of Social Sciences (SOSS) of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Under the new course, students can opt to study the postgraduate diploma in mental health. “The objective of the program is to build capacity through spreading of awareness and training of personnel working in the field to take care of the pressing need of the society addressing the mental health and well-being of the people,” program co-ordinator Swati Patra said. She further added that the program will help in reducing the shortage of trained mental health professionals in India.To the candidates the program will offer a broad range of study of psychological issues, which are related to the mental health and this will help in creating a sound base for the students who will become the future mental health experts of India.In order to be eligible for the course, the candidate must have PG degree in psychology, social work or nursing or h/she must be a medical graduate in any medical field.The course will be taught to the students through multiple media channels such as: Print materialAudio - visual programsCounseling sessionsTeleconferencingInteractive radio (Gyan Vani, the FM channel of IGNOU) The course will feature subjects like mental health, mental disorders, services for the mentally ill and others. Interested candidates can register for the program before August 18.
