Navodaya-type schools to have 40% quota for the minority girls

The new Navodaya-type schools will provide 40% reservation to the minority groups, Minister of State for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi released the statement to the media on Sunday. “There are more than 200 school buildings constructed in various minority areas under the multi-sectoral development plan (MSDP) that are lying unused. The schools will start here and there will be 40 per cent reservation for girls. Since this is not religion-based, there is no need to go to Parliament for this,” Naqvi told The Indian Express. To tackle the educational backwardness among the minority groups especially in Muslim community, Maulana Azad Education Foundation, suggested a three tier model. The foundation suggested creation of infrastructure at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels by opening 211 schools, 25 community colleges and five institutes.Naqvi further said that the government is already communicating with the KVS to run these schools. The panel said that the schools can work on the model of Kendriya Vidayala or Navodaya Vidayalaya.
