Student entrepreneurs will be allowed to operate from IIT-K hostel rooms
A top official of the institute said that IIT-Kharagpur has come up with an innovative scheme under which its students will be allowed to use their rooms as their entrepreneurship offices. According to the director of the IIT Kharagpur, PP Chakrabarti, the new project would enable the students to set up their offices within the hostel room at a low expense. This announcement was made by the director of the institute on the occasion of institute's 63rd annual convocation.Dinesh K Sarraf, Chairman and Managing Director of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, was the chief guest of convocation.Other dignitaries at the function included: IIT- KGP Board of Governors and Infosys Foundation chairperson Dr Sudha N Murthy. "We are coming up with a scheme where students can convert their hostel rooms into entrepreneurship offices at a much lower expense instead of taking rooms in STEP (Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park)," Mr. Chakrabarti said. In order to raise the global standing of the institute, the director also plans to have at least 10 percent faculty from foreign universities in the next five years' time.In the convocation degrees were awarded to more than 2500 students.According to the reports from PTI "two major R&D schemes were also implemented by the institution to streamline the partnership of various ministries and industry in areas of advanced high-end research at the academic institutions".
