School heads must also teach in the classes: Punjab Education Department

In order to deal with the staff crunch and to improve the level of education, an order has been issued by the Punjab education department in which it has asked the school heads, including principals/headmasters to take the classes. It has also asked the teachers who take only class XI and XII to take middle classes as well if the numbers of lectures are less than the lectures prescribed by the government. These orders were issued from the office of the Director of State Council Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and were signed by the secretary (education). The order said that it has come to light that the principals and headmasters are not taking classes of their respective subjects and as per the rules it is compulsory for them to teach their respective subjects. They have been asked up to take the board classes and mention the results of the classes which they teach in their Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs).Orders prescribed six to twelve periods for the principals per week and 15 for the headmasters. In a similar scenario, teachers who are taking secondary classes (XI and XII) have been asked to take the classes from VI to X if the assigned number of lectures are than the periods prescribed by the government. The orders also asked the school heads to mention their attendance on the registers apart from marking their arriving and leaving time.
