UGC to set up special panel for fixing the medical courses fees of the deemed universities



Government of India has asked the UGC to set up a special panel in order to regulate the tuition fee of the deemed and self-financed medical colleges and universities.The HRD ministry has also nominated members for the committee and they are: Sanjay Shrivastav, a retired professor of ophthalmologyB Srinivas, assistant director general at the Directorate of Health Services under the Health Ministry The committee is proposed by the government in compliance with the orders of the Madras High Court which is hearing the PIL, which demanded to fix the tuition fee of the medical courses in the deemed universities. 30 universities out of 123 deemed universities of the nation offer medical courses and among them are Manipal University, SRM University in Tamil Nadu, NIMHANS in Bengaluru and Jamia Hamdard University. The PIL filed in the Madras HC said that deemed universities offering medical courses are amassing the wealth through unfair means and are operating with the sole intention of earning high profits from the candidates.The plea has been admitted by the bench and all the deemed medical universities have been asked to respond to the PIL.
