Bill to regulate private medical colleges introduced by the Kerala
Kerala introduced a bill in the state assembly with the aim of regulating the admissions and fixing the fees in the private medical colleges of the state. The bill titled as 'The Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to Private Medical Education Institutions), 2017' and aims to provide the reservation for the backward classes in these institutions. Upon raising the objections and asking for a reason for introducing such bill the bill said that government has been receiving the complaints of malpractices done by various managements of the colleges during the admission procedure. In order to remove all the malpractices practiced by the management during the admission process, a 11-member Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee will be formed. This committee will be headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court and will determine the fee and admission process.Once passed, the bill will replace the current Kerala Medical Education (Regulation and Control of Admission to private medical Educational Institutions) Ordinance, promulgated in April, 2017.
