Delhi government to take over the management of 449 schools



The Delhi government said that it is ready to take over the management of some 449 odd schools which failed to comply with the order of the Delhi High Court and did not return the excess fee charged by them from the students and parents.In the same regard, Delhi government also filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court, which states that "they have already processed the proposal to issue show-cause notices for taking over the management of schools under Section 20 read within Section 24 (4) (c ) of Delhi School Education Act 2009". “Complying with the Anil Dev Singh committee recommendations, we had to take this action. The file has already been sent to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal. We had no option but to take this action as we have been sending notices to them for several years now,” said Atishi Marlena, advisor to Education Minister Manish Sisodia. Anil Dev Singh Committee, in its interim reports of June 2016 to October 2016 recommended some 544 schools to refund the extra fee charged by them from the parents.Of the total 544 schools, 469 schools were asked to refund the money. An inspection was ordered for 75 schools after which they were asked to refund the money. Remaining 67 schools challenged the committee's decision of which 17 cases are being heard in the court.
