IIT-Bombay helps establish entrepreneurship cells in 160 colleges in the nation

The Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Cell) of the IIT Bombay is now spreading its wing beyond its own campus in order to help 160 colleges to set up their own entrepreneurship cells across the country.IIT-Bombay's E-Cell is a students' run organization which help the students in realizing their latent entrepreneurship talent by exposing them to the entrepreneurship ecosystem through workshops, seminars and investor interactions. In 2013, E-Cell conducted a survey in the foreign universities in order to get a clear picture of the entrepreneurship model and trends outside the India. Through the survey it became clear that there is a need to look beyond the boundaries of the IIT-B and set up such functioning E-Cells in colleges across the nation. Since then, the Cell has helped in establishing 160 similar E-Cells in 80 cities, including Mysore, Indore and Jaipur.National Entrepreneurship Challenge (NEC) is at the heart of this campaign which calls for the participation from the various colleges of the nation for the prizes worth 6 lakh and mentorship from IIT-B.Each college has to set up E-Cell with minimum 5 students in the cell. The students are then assigned a task which they are needed to complete within 5 months.On August 31, 2017, the fifth edition of the NEC will roll out and the participant colleges will be judged on the basis of three milestones over the next three months. Last year, 601 colleges participated in the NEC from across the nation.
