National Education Policy: High Court seeks reply from private schools

The Delhi High Court has asked the center to reply on a plea alleging the non-representation of thousands of educational and charitable societies running unaided schools in a committee on National Education Policy (NEP).The committee is headed by a noted scientist K Kasturirangan. Ministry of Human Resource Development is given a final chance to file their reply against the plea filed by the Independent Schools Federation of India. In the plea they alleged "complete avoidance of private schools imparting elementary education in the newly constituted Committee". In the plea, the federation said that the government could not ignore the major stakeholders in the field of education because they are the final decision taking authority in the committee.“There is no representative of private schools when private educational societies are taking care of about one- third of students enrolled (8.9 crore) but are least consulted in matters of national educational policy,” the petition said.“Issue any appropriate order or direction commanding the Ministry of Human Resource Development to give proportional representation to all stakeholders like state governments, state, Central Boards and association of private educational charitable societies in the Committee so constituted under the Chairmanship of K Kasturirangan for framing national policy of education,” the plea said. The court will hear the matter on October 27.
