Center agreed to grant exemption to Tamil Nadu students from NEET 2017 exam

Center agreed to grant exemption to Tamil Nadu students from NEET 2017 exam

The long running demand of the Tamil Nadu state to exempt its students from the NEET 2017 exam has finally come to realization with center agreeing to the demand. Nearly, 4000 seats are available in the government colleges including the seats surrendered by the private medical colleges. 'If the state government promulgates an ordinance asking for exception for NEET this year, the Centre is ready to agree with that demand,' said Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.'Based on our interaction with the State, there is difficulty for rural students in getting admission,' she further added. The State now needs to pass an ordinance stating that the exemption is sought to help the students from rural backgrounds to get admissions into the government medical colleges. More than 90% of the students are from Tamil Nadu state board which makes it exceptionally difficult for them to crack the NEET exam which is solely based on the CBSE syllabus. The ordinance regarding the exemption will be submitted by the Tamil Nadu Health Minister, C Vijayabaskar tomorrow which will exempt the Tamil Nadu from NEET for 1 year. The practice of entrance exams has been curbed by the TN government in order to help the students from rural backgrounds who cannot afford expensive coaching. The admissions to the medical courses are granted on the basis of marks obtained in class 12.
