CBSE files FIR against book publisher over female body controversy

CBSE files FIR against book publisher over female body controversy

On April 12, the whole nation was took by shock when the images of class 12 physical education book referring '36-24-36' as the best female body went viral. Taking strict action against this CBSE (Central board of Secondary Education) filed an FIR against the publisher under Section 6 (indecent representation of women (Prohibition) Act 1986). After the images went viral CBSE issued a statement stating "CBSE does not recommend books by any private publishers to the affiliate schools. Rule 15.1 (d) of the Affiliation-bye-laws of the Board clearly states that the school will follow the syllabus on the basis of curriculum prescribed by NCERT/CBSE and textbooks published by NCERT or CBSE as far as practicable." After setting a committee and reviewing contents of the books, the board said: The female figure in the book has been described inappropriately which is not according to the spirit of the syllabus. In fact, the text is out of context of the syllabus irrespective of the claims made by the author of the book.On behalf of author and publisher it is a criminal offense as they have sold these books to the students by getting involved with some schools. The author and publisher have caused the wrongful loss of reputation, goodwill and credibility of the CBSE.
