Another fee hike issue: Court issued notice to CBSE against Chandigarh school

Over the issue of illegal fee hike in Chandigarh school, a local court in Chandigarh issued a notice to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).The notice from the court came against the backdrop of the petition filed by 33 parents against a private school in Chandigarh in sector-40 against a steep fee hike in the school.According to the reports the school not only demanded unreasonably high fee but also increased the quarterly tuition fee by 43 percent.More on the report According to the reports, the court of civil judge division Karanvir Singh Maju issued a notice to the CBSE and gave matter a time till April 21.In a reply, the counsel of the DPS school said that the parents who filed a petition had already deposited the fee Parent's view Parents, in the petition said that they were intimated about the fee hike last monthThey all took the matter to the school principal but attention was paid by school about the matter concernedParents also said, Principal told them if they did not deposit the fee by April 10 then their ward will not be promoted to the next class. Views of the DPS on the matter The school in a written statement said that court has no authority over the issue of fee fixation made by the school.School further said that they are affiliated with the CBSE and are governed by the bye-laws of the board only. Moreover, the school authorities in a recent Indian Express report said, "The plaintiffs have mentioned bye-law number 11 which takes up the issue of school fees charged by the unaided private schools. In case of violation of the said bye-law, the CBSE can take action against the school by de-affiliating it."
