After the SC verdict, Tripura assures to protect the future of the teachers



Manik Sarkar, Tripura Chief Minister assured of all-out effort from government side in order to protect more than 10,000 teachers who were affected by the SC verdit regarding the termination of the jobs. He also assured that government will approach the center on this issue."We follow Supreme Court orders... (but) we cannot wash away the future of 10,323 teachers. We will take all steps to protect their interests," Sarkar said. "The Cabinet decided that the state is committed to ensuring there is no disruption in educational endeavours and educational institutions function smoothly...." Chief Minister said after dubbing the Supreme Court order as unexpected. The Supreme Court upheld the order of the Tripura high court. Sarkar said that "government will approach the HRD ministry for the relaxation in age and other criteria under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009." The minister also said that making selections through the Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) is a big challenge for all states as the set criteria is tough for the aspirants. The SC upheld the order of the Tripura High Court to terminate the jobs of 10,323 teachers but allowed then to continue till December 31."We gave some jobs based on need and economic conditions of families, but the court turned down these criteria," Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said.
